Promoting life in the slow lane, The Water Cabin is a wonderfully chic bolthole for couples or families wanting to totally unplug and relax in the heart of the Broads National Park. The first renovation by the uber-chic lifestyle brand Nor-Folk (who also boast a shop, journal and creative studio), means that the love poured into this place is palpable. With a decked area that leads directly onto the river and countryside views to the rear, the location is as picture-perfect as the cabin.
The relaxed interiors will have you smitten as soon as you walk through the door. With a nod to the functional, the simplicity of the interiors are perfectly balanced with warm natural elements and creative designer touches.
The dining room has a large table, plentiful storage (to keep the space suitably minimalist) and its fair share of morning sunshine that streams through the skylight and picture window.
The kitchen is equipped to whip up some suitably slow lane fare. With an electric oven and hob, fridge (with freezer compartment) and a plentiful supply of teabags, it’s all about keeping it simple.
The bright living room has two large windows overlooking the river, and a skylight overhead lets in even more light. The large comfortable sofa, chic illuminated sign and carefully selected travel and design books make the space wonderfully inviting. Sink into the sofa and take your time to fully relax. There is also a TV with a DVD player, but in the spirit of unplugging, there is no terrestrial signal or wifi. Simply select a movie and snuggle down.
The bedrooms (one double, one twin) promise no fuss or distraction - just a perfectly peaceful place to sleep. Minimalism does not mean cutting back on luxury though, with both bedrooms boasting an Eve Sleep Modular double bed/single bed and mattresses. Painted panelling, white wooden floors and crisp white linen are softened with elegant natural textiles. And the tiny porthole windows give a gentle nod to its charming riverside location.
The bathroom also delivers, with a large walk-in shower and bath - perfect for some slow lane luxuriating.
Outside there is a beautiful decked area and lawn that lead directly on to the river. Take a seat and breathe it all in.
When you’re ready to leave the slow lane then there are some lovely places to go and explore (at a leisurely pace, of course). The historic city of Norwich with its Cathedral, Norman Castle and winding alleyways is just 30 minutes away. And for those craving a bit of sea air, head to the pretty village of Winterton-on-sea where you’ll discover a long sandy beach and impressive dunes.
