The Detail...
Built into a huge sweet chestnut tree on the edge of a wood in West Sussex is the beautiful Treehouse at Castle Cottage. Located in the grounds of the gothic Coates Castle in the stunning South Downs National Park, this thatched holiday home is a truly unique experience.
Accessed via a large wooden staircase, the Treehouse consists mostly of one, cleverly designed room. After heading inside via French doors, guests are greeted by the trunk of the tree growing up alongside the sumptuous double bed with fine cotton sheets. With wooden panelled walls, bohemian furniture, and light crisscrossing through various windows, there is an almost magical feel to this woodland dwelling.
Despite its location, creature comforts still exist for the two people staying at the Treehouse. As well as tea and coffee making facilities and a TV, there is also an en-suite shower room with light pouring in from the glass roof overhead.
Outside the property is a large wooden balcony which wraps around the Treehouse and is complete with swing seating, so guests can sit back and relax while overlooking the nearby pond and treetops beyond.
As part of the stay, guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast served in the heated conservatory at Castle Cottage and surrounded by the old stone walls and grape vines. An organic full English breakfast, as well as a vegetarian option and continental breakfast are all available.
Surrounded by the South Downs National Park, there are plenty of opportunities to get out and about and explore. There are many paths and hikes leading right from the front door, while the 80-mile South Downs Way is close by. Plenty of activities are also available, including horse riding, fly fishing, and gliding. Also nearby is Goodwood, with its motor racing and horse racing.
For those who enjoy eating and drinking, there are also plenty of great options within easy reach. This includes several local vineyards, as well as an array of eateries such as both gastro and traditional pubs, along with restaurants.
