This two-bedroom bolthole, which is perfect for families of four, couples or small groups of friends in search of a quintessential Cotswolds escape, can be found in the picture-perfect village of Upper Slaughter. One of a square of eight cottages built from creamy Cotswold stone, this home would not look out of place on a chocolate box. The interior is just as delicious with its stylishly unique layout and original farmhouse features.
The elegantly furnished lounge with its sumptuously soft seating and emerald velvet sofa is a study in chic and the feature log burner in the fireplace is sure to conjure up the warmth of nostalgia as you enjoy a nightcap or indulge in a game of chess.
Follow the corridor round to the bright, fully-equipped country kitchen and dining area, which welcomes you with an elegant palette of warm neutrals and French greys. There’s a lovely large wooden dining table with farmhouse-style chairs, perfect for evenings in and morning brunches, and charming original window features. Off the kitchen, you’ll also find the boot room and laundry room, perfect after those long, muddy walks exploring the stunning countryside.
Upstairs, you have two cosy bedrooms and a family bathroom that sit off the quirky geometric landing space with its characterful sloping roof. One of the bedrooms has a king size bed and the other a super-king (that can be made into a twin on request). In these, you can appreciate locally commissioned artwork and original fireplace features, alongside stylish botanical print curtains that mirror the rural and flourishing surrounding beyond. The bedding is luxuriously welcoming, tempting you to stay an extra few minutes in bed. The luxurious sky-blue family bathroom is complete with a generous bath and overhead rainfall shower.
At the front of the cottage and overlooking the Square’s courtyard, is a south-facing area, complete with an outdoor dining set for four, enveloped by garden blooms. The perfect spot for a chilled glass of rosé with friends or your morning coffee.
Once you’ve explored the quaint village and its sister village, Lower Slaughter, which is a leisurely walk away along a footpath perched on the banks of the River Eye, why not venture further afield? The delights of Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Kingham are just around the corner and the larger towns of Cheltenham and Cirencester are just a short distance away. Whichever way you choose you can expect idyllic countryside scenes, charming pockets of houses, handfuls of quaint pubs and award-winning restaurants.
