The detail

In the quiet Devon village of Marlborough, just a short walk from the Channel Coast, is a truly striking holiday home. The Smurf House has been decorated with the utmost consideration for comfort, style and more than a smattering of quirkiness. Here, the décor is chic, the colours vibrant and the personality of this fun holiday home is on full show. It boasts a gorgeous outdoor area which includes a lawn, summer house, six-person hot tub and an upstairs decking. Meanwhile, its location makes for the perfect base from which to explore some of the UK's most picturesque scenery. Sleeping up to 12 guests across five bedrooms (including one wheelchair accessible guest room and ensuite), there really is something for everyone at The Smurf House.

Upon entering the bright yellow front door, guests will realise immediately that The Smurf House is a little bit special. The ground floor's (completely wheelchair accessible) communal area houses the open plan kitchen, dining and living rooms. The stylish kitchen is wonderfully well-equipped and boasts a striking split level island kitchen. Here, one can cook up the evening meal while fellow guests keep them company. The dedicated gin bar in the corner should make this a tad easier! Adjacent, the long dining table comfortably seats 10, while the lounge has ample comfy seating and makes a great spot for socialising long into the night.

The ground floor guest room and ensuite is perfect for those with mobility issues. The bed can function as twins or a super king, and the striking ensuite shower room comes with a built-in shower seat and brass railings. There is also a second ground floor bathroom with a shower big enough for two (if you're in a hurry, of course). Ascend the feature spiral staircase to reach the first-floor bedrooms. There are four in all, each meticulously decorated and brimming with character. The three king size bedrooms have their own bespoke ensuite bathrooms for added privacy, while the fourth bedroom has two sets of pod bunk beds.

Two of the main bedrooms grant access to the upstairs decking which overlooks the garden. Here, you can enjoy an evening tipple and relax on the outdoor furniture. The garden below has a lawned area, fire pit, six-person hot tub and a charming summer house/games room at the foot of the garden. And should you need to get from upstairs to down quickly, you can always jump in the terrace’s tube slide!

You will be situated right in the middle of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The region is home to some breathtaking scenery, gorgeous country walks and beautiful beaches. Just a five-minute drive east is Salcombe. Known for its large waterfront, this popular resort town is home to plenty of eateries, bars and independent shops.
