Shoreham, West Sussex
A romantic and chic light-filled ‘floating' home for two, uniquely nestled within a bustling houseboat community in West Sussex.
The Raft is listed in affiliation with AirBnB.
Beautifully positioned amongst a parade of houseboats, on a nature reserve close to Shoreham-by-Sea, The Raft is an idyllic, imaginative, and scenic sanctuary for two.
All the comforts of a modern homestead are provided within this bespoke space, and great attention has clearly been spent on creating an experience that leaves you cherishing the character of this houseboat.
The charming getaway was lovingly designed right down to the hand-hammered brass door handles! Just to cap it off, they've also seen to it that every holiday comfort is gainfully covered.
The Raft is fully self-contained, with fast internet, a stack of books, and a radio (plus a pair of binoculars and a handy guide to help you identify the local bird life). Its location alongside the River Adur and the Adur Estuary is protected by the RSPB - even more reason to reach for those binoculars!
The living space even extends out to an elegant deck, ideal if you'd like an extra helping of morning sunshine with your coffee, or golden shimmers of sunset with an evening glass of wine.
Your surroundings, meanwhile, are charmingly furnished and cheerfully decorated throughout, with bursts of colour, and streams of natural light from huge windows and skylights.
The squishy-soft double bed is perfect for curling up in after a day exploring the idyllic South Downs or nearby Brighton, while a gleaming, well-equipped kitchen will help you rustle up romantic meals. There's a cute dining space for two, and an outrageously pretty shower room for you to freshen up in.
Home comforts taken care of. What next? You could start with the beach, which is a mere two-minute walk away, and perfect for wind and kite surfing. Why not take part? There are plenty of rentals in the area that allow you to get involved in water sports or simply watch in awe as the local surfers brave the waves...and the cold.
Otherwise, take a wander into Shoreham-by-Sea, and discover an eclectic town filled with lazy coffee stops, restaurants, and independent shops to browse through. Brighton is a short bus or train journey away and is truly the mecca when it comes to the weird and wonderful.
