The detail

Perched high up on the cliffside, amongst the green trees and bushes, this handsome Victorian villa occupies a plum position enjoying fabulous views across the rooftops and out over the sea to the horizon. Situated in the pretty seaside town of Ilfracombe, it is just a five minute stroll to the beach and the town's lovely local shops and independent pubs, restaurants and cafes.

This light and bright property has been beautifully renovated retaining many of its wonderful original features including stripped wooden floorboards, stunning stained-glass windows and original fireplaces, yet its finishings are all modern and guests will love the luxurious touches provided. This impressive seven bedroom villa, originally built for an Admiral, is set over three storeys and has its own large private garden full of nooks and crannies, a haven for curious children or grown-ups trying to hideaway.

Inside, the building has been beautifully decorated with a traditional colour scheme with lots of vintage pieces to compliment its character. There is a large, open plan living and dining room with big leather corner sofas inviting friends and family to enjoy time together, there is plenty of room for everyone.

A large dining table occupies one side of the room, in front of an open fire place, for cosy dinners on colder nights, and a bookshelf is brimming with books for guest's to enjoy at leisure. There is an abundance of light in the room courtesy of the huge windows which occupy one side of the room, relax with a drink and watch the sunset or step outside on to one of three sun terraces.

The kitchen is extremely well-equipped with an always-in-service Aga as well as a modern Miele cooker and a big American-style fridge freezer. A mid-century dining set sits by patio doors which lead out to a pretty patio area. Just off the kitchen is a separate vine room which in summer is filled with juicy grapes and a nectarine tree. Equipped with benches, this is a pretty sanctuary to enjoy the view and grab some alone time.

Upstairs and all the bedrooms are light, warm, comfortable and beautifully furnished. There are four king-sized beds, one twin, one single and one double - all stylishly dressed with crisp linens and cosy duvets. There are two large family bathrooms and two bedrooms have en-suites and there is a further separate toilet.

The Quarry is ideally located for a relaxing family seaside holiday. The property backs onto the South West Coastal Path while the pretty harbour and sandy beach will keep children busy for hours. Foodies should head to The Antidote or the Michelin-starred The Olive Room, both walking distance from the house. Or enjoy fresh fresh crab and lobster from The Walrus - order in advance and collect some live crustaceans for supper.
