The Old School House is a delightful holiday cottage nestled away in the peaceful Yorkshire Dales village of Bainbridge. Originally the local school, the property has been converted into a stunning home that sits on top of the village green. Bainbridge is surrounded by the idyllic Dales countryside, with outstanding scenery and an array of footpaths right on your doorstep. After a long day out exploring the Dales, the cottage is the perfect place to relax and recharge.
Built in 1874 from local stone, this historic building has been lovingly refurbished by the owners into a special home. The property balances its traditional features and rustic charm with all the modern comforts you could need to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The main living space features a seating and dining area, and tall windows flood the room with natural light. Deep, comfy sofas, super soft throws and cushions and a log burning stove make the room ideal for cosying up on chilly evenings. There’s also a large dining table with room for everyone to gather and enjoy a delicious meal, reminisce on their days or plan the next adventure. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave and all the other essentials you could need, and you can enjoy the lovely views across the green whilst you cook.
When it’s time for bed, four cosy bedrooms await, all fitted with luxury bed linen. On the ground floor there is a king bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, and on the first floor there is another king bedroom, one single room and one twin, as well as the house bathroom. At the rear of the property is the sunny courtyard, which has outdoor dining space and a barbecue, the ideal spot for some al fresco dinners in the warm weather or evening drinks with your loved ones as the sun begins to set. The village green is out the front and makes a wonderful spot for a summer picnic.
The village of Bainbridge is home to a traditional pub that serves up local ales and home cooked food, a tearoom, a shop and a butchers. The River Bain - the shortest river in England - runs through the village and can be followed to the picturesque Lake Semerwater. The charming local villages of Askrigg, Hawes and Leyburn are also just a short drive from the house. The Yorkshire Dales boasts stunning views and are perfect to explore on foot or by bike. Deep valleys, hay meadows, heather moorlands and natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Aysgarth Falls are just some of the sights to see in the National Park. You can also visit the Wensleydale creamery and see how the famous cheese is made or go on a sampling tour at one of the Dales’ many breweries.
