Charming 17th century bakery converted for comfort and luxury in the beautiful town of Dartmouth nestled on the banks of the River Dart.
Please note: minimum stay for this property is: 4 nights low season & 7 nights high season
This characterful old bakery, built in 1685, with its uneven floors and twisting staircase has been elegantly converted for contemporary comfort and would be ideal for a family seeking a respite in lovely Devon.
Located in the heart of the town, on the banks of the River Dart, this gorgeous home has been decorated to a very high standard with modern fixtures and fittings blending seamlessly with the building's original stone walls and wooden beams.
On the ground floor the open plan kitchen and dining room is a perfect gathering area and has a sleek under-lit kitchen island with bar stools where you can lounge with a glass of wine whilst someone else cooks. A large eight seater dining table provides the perfect place to host a fabulous dinner or enjoy a coffee from the Nespresso machine whilst making your plans for the day. Wooden floors are kept cosy with artfully placed rugs and a mustard sofa and rich blue velvet easy chair suffuse the room with warm colour. There's also a wood burner to keep you toasty on chilly evenings.
There's an additional lounge area upstairs, with views over the park, where you'll find a large comfy corner sofa, a 50 inch Smart TV and shelves filled with books and games for you to enjoy. The colours here are more muted with grey soft carpeting and a grey feature wall creating a cosy place to put your feet up with a good book or snooze your way through a matinee.
There are two bedrooms, both beautifully decorated. One with a king-sized bed, the other with large twin beds. Both have en-suites, one with a walk-in shower and the other with a bath and shower. In addition to this, there's a room downstairs with bunk beds, hanging space, two kids bean bags and a family bathroom.
The property also benefits from a lovely enclosed courtyard with seating and a table for eight should you fancy some alfresco dining. The hosts have thoughtfully provided solar lights so you can linger out there with your dessert long after the sun has set.
The Old Bakery is a perfectly placed hub for exploring the area. It's a short walk from the River Test and Dartmouth Harbour and there are plenty of places to eat and drink within strolling distance. For breakfast you might like to try the Anchor Stone Cafe which serves lovely food and coffee and also offers takeaways. Bar 1620 has an outside space on the embankment and offers fabulous cocktails whilst the Shipin Dock Inn provides a great local for cold pints. For dinner you could try Andria which specialises in modern European cooking or you might like to pick up some delicious bits from Smith Street Deli and prepare a feast at home. Rockfish is the place for fish and chips and there's a host of other places to try, you'll be spoilt for choice.
