  The Detail...

Escape to your own private corner of the stunning Lake District at The Heft. This stylish cottage with fantastic views across the surrounding countryside is traditional from the outside, but modern and luxurious as soon as guests step inside.

The one-bedroom holiday home accommodates two people and is the ideal romantic getaway. Set across one floor, those staying step into the open plan social area through glass doors which allow light to flood into the space. A comfy sofa in the seating area sits in front of the flat screen TV, before the room flows past the dining table for two and into the kitchen. This is fully equipped with an electric cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and washer and dryer.

In the bedroom there is a super king-size bed to ensure a peaceful nights sleep in this tranquil part of the country. It also has an en-suite bathroom, complete with a shower over the bath and heated floor and towel rail. Skylights built into the sloped ceiling in the kitchen and bedroom keep the cottage bright and airy, but without ever losing its cosy and homely charm.

The patio doors step out onto a private outdoor terrace with seating and there are fire bowls to keep guests warm through the evening and into the night. Logs, charcoal, and firelighters for these are kept in the communal shed, while there is also storage for canoes, bikes etc and plenty of parking.

The Heft is close to Lake Ullswater - the second largest in the National Park and surrounded by woodland and mountains. Approximately nine miles long, one of the finest walks in the entire Lake District is along its eastern shore and takes in Place Fell, St. Sunday Cragg, and Fairfield. Alternatively, take the gentler walk to Aira Force waterfall and look down over the 70 foot drop and to the lake beyond.

Its also well worth getting out onto the water itself and there is no better way to do that than on one of the steamers that have been sailing on Ullswater since 1855. At the northern end of the lake is the village of Pooley Bridge and on the southern side is Glenridding.
