  • There's a flat screen television with Freeview and Chrome Cast attachment for cosy night's in.
  • The Hay Trailer is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds, a 10 min drive from junction 18 of the M4 motorway, and 15 minutes from the city of Bath.

You should know
  • Oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, tea, Earl grey tea, herbal teas, coffee and sugar are all provided so just stock up on the big ingredients.
  • There may be a small extra charge for wood used after the first couple of uses if you’re staying for a longer period and use it several times.
  • It’s a good idea to bring flip flops or slippers to get from the cabin into the hot tub, it’s not far, just across the external decking just outside the Hay Trailer. Dressing gowns are provided.
  • The Hay Trailer is strictly a non-smoking property. Guests will be fined £150 for smoking inside the premises.
  • Guests must read directions and print off before getting to us so they don't get lost as phone reception in the area is patchy!
  • A car is recommended for getting here and getting about.
  • If you’re heating the tub yourself it takes around 2 - 3 hours to heat up. The owners lay the fire for you so all you need to do is strike a match to it, make sure it’s caught really well, and then stoke it up with more wood every half an hour to 45 minutes until it reaches 37 degrees centigrade. But don’t worry they give you instructions for all of this!
  • If you’d rather they heat it for you the owners generally heat it for around 6/7 pm onwards. It stays hot for a good few hours. You’re then welcome to light and heat it up again yourself on your following evenings, which they give you instructions for.

The detail

The Hay Trailer is a hand crafted wooden cabin built on a reclaimed hay trailer that appears as though it has always been here, resting in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, unspoilt and private. Wide steps lead up to a generous decked area and a pale blue barn door opens onto an open plan living area that's perfect for a couple wanting a relaxing break away from the busy world.

The interior is decorated in pale colours and natural woods with large windows on three sides allowing the light to flood the space. At one end you'll find a comfortable king-sized bed with crisp cotton bedding facing a small TV in the corner so you can snuggle up under the duvet with tea and biscuits and enjoy a film. Towards the centre of the room is a deep two seater sofa and a large chest of drawers for you to store your clothing. A small two seater table sits snug in front of a fully equipped kitchen area where you can happily whip up a feast to enjoy by candlelight.

The bathroom is in a separate room at the far end of the hut and, like the rest of the cabin, is decorated in white with blue accents including lovely tiles above the sink area. There's a double roll top bath and shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are provided.

After a good night's sleep start the day on the decking with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view from comfortable seating as you plan your day. The outdoor space is ideal for lazing around on a sunny afternoon with a good book and a chilled glass of wine. There's a rather marvellous wood-fired hot tub which you can pay a fee to have cleaned, heated and stoked for your entire stay. There's also a fire pit and a BBQ if you fancy dining al fresco and star gazing at night.

The Hay Trailer is set in three acres of beautiful wild garden/woodland. The owners live down the hill but there’s plenty of space for everyone to have their own privacy. If you fancy a pint or a pub meal there's two places to choose from in Marshfield, which is a two mile walk or a five minute drive, called The Catherine Wheel and The Lord Nelson Inn. Both are highly recommended and charming. There's also a great fish and chip shop two and a half miles away in Batheaston. For a day out Bath should not be missed. A fantastic, historic city, Bath has beautiful architecture, Roman baths to admire, spas to visit (try Thermae, it has a roof top pool!) and plenty of great restaurants, bars and cafes to explore.
