Enjoy your own wing of a grand country house on a private 700-acre estate in Scotland. The Guardhouse, built in 1788, is a unique, listed building packed with charm and character. Inside you’ll find a cosy hideaway, centred around an impressive fireplace, perfect for couples on a romantic getaway. Outside, there’s your own private garden space with a wood-fired hot tub and beyond that, a beautiful walled garden, flowing rivers where you can fish or swim and endless rugged countryside to explore.
The Guardhouse is part of the historic Mayen House but guests have their own entrance and private garden so you can choose to be as secluded as you like. Step inside and you immediately get a sense of the history of the building. You’ll be greeted by beautiful wooden floors, beams overhead, extravagant soft furnishings and an impressive chimney breast with a wood-burning stove at the heart of it all.
Sit back and relax in front of the stove on the comfy sofa or perhaps try a tune or two on the piano. The living area is double height in some parts, overlooked by the bedroom on a mezzanine level, helping the house feel interconnected and cosy. There’s a fully equipped kitchen and you can pick up fresh ingredients from the local farm shop. On sunny days, take the cooking outside to the outdoor kitchen where you'll find a Kamado barbecue and a pizza oven.
Upstairs, the bedroom is a relaxing space with a comfy double bed complete with crisp, fresh sheets. There’s also a lovely antique writing desk positioned to enjoy the wonderful views out over the estate. In the bathroom, you’ll find a gorgeous roll-top bath where you can relax after a long walk on the estate, as well as a separate shower.
There’s plenty to do in the area without even leaving the estate. Stroll through the walled garden and out to the woodlands and meadows beyond. Try your hand at a bit of wild salmon fishing or have a go at clay pigeon shooting. A ‘posh picnic’ can be prepared for you and delivered to your door or to a location on the estate. In the evening, return to your romantic hideaway and relax in the wood-fired hot tub enjoying a glass of something as the sun sets.
