The Grand Old Cottage is listed in affiliation with Plum Guide.
Steeped in history, the Grand Old Cottage is a former groom's cottage dating back to the 18th century that has been revived and restored to all its former glory. Sleeping up to four guests, the property really makes the most of its heritage, while bringing a modern touch so guests are more than comfortable. A glamorous copper roll-top bath, rich coloured walls and vintage furniture all add to its charm, allowing guests to take a step back in time during their stay. Nearby, the New Forest's wilderness and the Jurassic Coast's stunning scenery await, while the seaside resort of Bournemouth is just down the road, too.
This home is unashamedly country, blending just the right amount of rustic charm with luxurious, contemporary touches. The characterful kitchen is home to an Aga cooker, which really needs to be tried out, with a lovely dining area for guests to socialise around. Two beautifully decorated king-sized bedrooms provide a cosy environment to sink into a peaceful night's sleep, both of which have ensuite bathrooms. Each bathroom's decor has been carefully designed, with exposed brick and original wood floorboards giving the perfect setting to a lovely soak in one of the two copper roll-top bath tubs. Of course, there is always the option to shower in one of the stylish cubicle showers. On the vast grounds outside, there is plenty of open space to relax and stroll, or for children to play, with lush greenery all around, as well as a lake to laze by.
The Grand Old Cottage is based on the grounds of the historic Shaftesbury Estate on the edge of the small, rural village of Wimborne St Giles. Stepping just outside, guests are greeted by the lovely River Allen, and a choice of picturesque walking trails. Further afield, the wonder of the Jurassic Coast with its stunning sand beaches and historic geology, await. Also not too far away is the New Forest National Park, full of ancient woodlands, quaint villages and free-roaming wildlife at every turn.
