The Details...

Set in Kincardineshire, on the border of the Scottish Highlands, this is a perfect romantic retreat. This one bedroom serviced cottage is perfect for those cosy nights in front of an open fire, with a long lie in, in a curved king sized bed. Take time to appreciate a Nespresso coffee from the kitchen and enjoy the quiet seclusion then savour in the Jacuzzi bath and cuddle up and watch a blu-ray dvd. Set within the Fasque House Estate, its four hundred acres are the natural home to a host of Scottish wildlife including deer, red squirrels, otters and eagles. This charismatic property can also double as a base from which to explore further afield with Aberdeen and Dundee only an hour away. An easy drive opens up a world of activities to try (such as a whisky tour at Fettercairn Distillery) and historic sites to explore (Crathes Castle and Gardens near Banchory or the ruins of Dunnottar Castle to name a few).

The house has one comfortable bedroom with a bathroom within. There’s an open fire to cosy up to in the living room, and a 32 inch Television, Blu-ray DVD player, Sonos music system. The kitchen has twin electric hob (no oven), a fridge with a small freezer compartment, a microwave and a Nespresso coffee machine. Outside is a large enclosed garden and parking for two vehicles.

The main attraction is the stately home of Fasque House, dating from 1809 and home of the Gladstone family (including statesman W.E. Gladstone). Laurencekirk is the principal town in the Howe o' the Mearns - Lewis Grassic Gibbon country. To the south lies St. Cyrus National Nature Reserve. On the north west side of the village, set beautifully against the hills beyond, lies the whitewashed Fettercairn Distillery. This dates back to 1824, though much of what you see today is later. A mile to the north of Fettercairn is Fasque, a superb stately home built in 1809 and from 1829 the family home of the Gladstones, whose most famous son was William Gladstone, one of the Prime Ministers to serve under Queen Victoria.
