The detail

A wonderfully relaxing retreat for two, The Clock House is the located in the centre of West Sussex’s beautiful cathedral city, Chichester. The boutique accommodation is full of special treats, making this the ideal choice for a romantic weekend, or perhaps a little longer.

This converted coach house is instantly recognisable by its eye-catching clock, and is just a short walk from the many shops and restaurants found in the city centre. With noticeable attention to the little details, it offers an intimate environment, with a cosy living room featuring a fireplace and two large, chunky sofas. You have lots to entertain yourselves with – Smart HD TV with Netflix, Blu-ray and DVD, plus a Bose sound system – and a dining area with seating for four.

The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking for friends, with oven, microwave, coffee machine and much more. You don’t have to, though – The Clock House can arrange for three-course meals prepared by professional chefs to be delivered, and all you will need to do is heat them up. You can also order breakfast hampers, with all you need for a Full English, vegetarian or continental breakfast.

A beautiful, oak-beamed double bedroom features a sumptuous king-size bed with Egyptian cotton linens and provides the perfect setting for a weekend morning lie-in. The bathroom carries on the luxury feel, with fluffy White Company robes and Molton Brown toiletries to get you in the mood for pampering. With underfloor heating, a bath and overhead shower, it’s just right for a long soak at the end of the day.

And just when you think we’re done, there’s another little surprise, in the form of the charming courtyard garden. Lantern-lit, it’s a lovely, secluded spot to chill at any time, with a table and chairs and a barbecue. In fact, it’s so cute, you might just start planning your return visit.

Chichester has plenty to see and do, from the wonderful West Dean Gardens to the 12th-century cathedral and the Chichester Festival Theatre which stages an impressive range of productions and hosts some famous names too. The city’s location just south of the glorious South Downs ensures stunning countryside is never far away, and neither are the Goodwood Racecourse and Motor Circuit, both less than 15 minutes’ drive away.
