Set in the rugged landscape of the Scottish Highlands and with sweeping views that reach Skye’s Cuillin Mountains, this luxurious bothy is a peaceful hideaway for two. Originally a cow byre, it has been lovingly and creatively restored to accommodate a king-size bed, a cosy living space with a wood-burning stove and a unique shower room with plenty of charming rustic touches. This is a romantic escape for couples looking to slow down the pace in the midst of some spectacular scenery.
The Birdhouse interior has been furnished in a contemporary Scottish style with a creative, rustic twist. You’ll find a satisfying mix of materials, from the traditional tweeds and sumptuous linens to the beautiful carpentry in the kitchen and the metal details in the shower and on the doors. There are also original paintings by Scottish artists to discover throughout the house.
The cosy living and kitchen area is well equipped for everything from sitting back with a book and warming your feet by the fire to rustling up delicious meals. With the wood-burning stove and an efficient heating system, you’ll be cosy whatever the weather outside. The luxurious bedroom has a king-size bed set under a beautiful canopy of rowan branches. The bathroom features beautiful copper fittings and the corrugated iron shower surround contrasts beautifully with the wood detailing around the mirror and sink.
Outside, you’ll find a garden with outdoor furniture and a barbecue so you can cook up alfresco feasts on sunny afternoons. In the evenings, sit back with a glass of wine on the bench at the front of The Birdhouse and watch the birds enjoy the garden as the sun sets in the distance.
The Birdhouse is located near the village of Applecross on the Applecross Peninsula in the Scottish Highlands. From the doorstep, there are walks that can take you to secluded beaches or along rivers to small lochs. The more adventurous walkers might want to tackle some of the paths that take you up the mountains and reward you with stunning views. There are almost endless opportunities for outdoor activities, from sea kayaking and paddleboarding to fishing and wild swimming.
