These innovative, eco-friendly holiday homes sit in the centre of New Zealand’s Little River. Find inner peace and tranquility in this isolated location - which is just 50 minutes from Christchurch - while staying in a converted silo.
Each silo has been carefully designed so that everything required fits into the round shape of the accommodation. There are two types of silo - with one having all the rooms across the same level and the other split across two. Both have custom-fitted kitchenette areas which are ideal for all cooking needs, has a small fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a comfy and relaxed seating area with a music system capable of playing MP3 and CDs, as well as a flat screen TV and WiFi throughout. Outside is a balcony for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening drink.
The sleeping quarters - which are accessed via a spiral steel staircase in the two-tiered silos - have a queen size bed and electric blankets for those colder nights. There is also a bathroom with a shower and free toiletries. For those that have stairs there is another balcony on the upper level as well.
SiloStays is at one with nature and the beautiful Little River Rail Trail to Christchurch is right on the doorstep. This follows the route of a 19th Century railway line and winds along creeks and rivers and is open to the public to enjoy by foot or bike. The site itself offers cycling packages for guests to enjoy, which can easily be added to their stay.
Little River itself, which was formed by ancient volcanic eruptions in the region, is the gateway to the stunning Banks Peninsula. There is plenty to explore and discover in the area, such as the Birdlings Flat settlement in Canterbury - which is close to the shore of Lake Ellesmere. Then there is the stunning wildlife at Ecliptic Eastern Bays, the nature reserve which is home to a number of birds and has amazing white sands and is renowned for surfing. For those who want to enjoy some swimming then a visit to Surreal Southern Bays is a must.
