This lovely tranquil cottage was renovated in 2019 giving it a fresh, clean, spacious and airy quality. It boasts views of the peaceful countryside and would be ideal for a family holiday or a getaway for friends wanting to explore all that the historic city of Durham has to offer.
The cottage is much larger than you'd expect and the heart of the home is definitely the beautifully presented living and dining room. Enter from the hall to find a cosy seating area comprising of two brown leather chesterfields tucked around a gas-fired burner set in a traditional fireplace. There's a smart TV with Netflix in the corner, which is an ideal spot for a movie night, some wine or a good book with the fire to warm your toes on a chilly night. French doors provide idyllic views of the countryside.
The dining table is a fabulous chunky wooden affair with overstuffed leather chairs, making it ideal for long lazy suppers and board games. The walls are bedecked with interesting and quirky art and the décor in general is elegant, warm and inviting without being at all cluttered.
The kitchen is cosy, modern and fully equipped. It's right next to the dining room for convenience and has a high-end Smeg oven and gas hob as well as a large fridge freezer and all the crockery you could need for a lush dinner party.
As well as a utility room, the ground floor has a delightful south facing sun room, an absolute treat of a place to enjoy your morning coffee, whatever the weather, with views of the valley and the landscaped garden.
There's one bedroom on the ground floor which is spacious and has twin beds which can be made into a super-king upon request. The room has a calm feel with pale walls, a linen headboard and crisp sheets on the bed promising a peaceful nights sleep. Large French doors lead out to the garden and there's a hanging 'egg' chair just outside the door where you can relax with a book or a cuppa. The room also has a great ensuite with a big walk-in rainfall shower and plenty of The White Company fluffy towels.
Upstairs you'll find the second bedroom presented in a mezzanine style with a pretty seating area and gorgeous views through the large window. There's a super comfy king-size bed and plenty of storage and as with the downstairs bedroom, the room is decorated in soothing pale colours and has a fully tiled ensuite. This one boasts a free-standing roll-top bath as well as the large walk-in rainfall shower.
After a restorative night's sleep head downstairs and make a coffee before heading out into the magnificent south facing garden where you can sink into a lounge chair and enjoy the uninterrupted views of the countryside. There's a small table and seating for early evening drinks or if the weather is lovely, there's a four seater dining table with comfy seating.
Number Nine is a short 20-minute walk from a Knitsley Farm Shop, a must visit, where you can stock up on local goodies or enjoy a snack and a coffee in the pretty courtyard. The nearest village is Lanchester, you can get there by foot, bike or car depending on your mood, and it's chock full of independent shops, pubs, restaurants and pleasant walks. Durham is the nearest big city and has everything a good city has to offer plus Durham Castle, Beamish Museum and the famous Durham University.
