The detail

Mill Barn is a unique holiday cottage, converted from a farm’s 18th-century grain store and horse engine house into luxurious accommodation for six. Beautiful original features and the thick stone walls of the barn have been preserved while adding in big open-plan living spaces, cosy bedrooms and a roll-top bath. Set on Tredarrup farm and close to the coast of North Cornwall, this makes a wonderful base for exploring the county.

You’ll find the three double bedrooms on the lower floor. You’re all set for a wonderful night’s sleep with luxury bedlinen and blackout blinds, and thick stone walls ensure that you won’t be disturbed. Some of the beautiful original features of the barn are still in place. Alongside the sumptuous super-king size bed in the master bedroom, the original granite flooring is still there and there’s also a grain sill. There’s also a twin room and the third bedroom can be set up as another twin or a super-king size double offering plenty of flexibility whether you’re away with friends or family. The gorgeous family bathroom features the barn’s original slate floor and has a freestanding roll-top bath. There’s also a shower room with a large rainfall shower and a range of luxury toiletries is provided.

Upstairs, you’ll find the spacious, open-plan living area which is perfect for socialising. The large farmhouse kitchen and dining area is at one end, moving through to a sitting room with comfy sofas and a woodburning stove at the other. There’s also a cosy snug with an armchair and a sofa in case you want a bit of time to yourself curled up with a book, or the kids fancy their own space.

There are also some lovely outdoor spaces that make the most of the wonderful views across the Cornish countryside. There’s a barbecue and a seating area with a large oak table and armchairs under the cover of the old horse engine house. Head down to the lower terrace as the evening draws in and light the fire pit to stay cosy while you do a bit of stargazing. There’s also a large shared garden with plenty of seating and spectacular views.

Mill Barn is located in North Cornwall close to Port Isaac and Padstow, making it the perfect base to explore Cornwall and Devon too. There is plenty to do in the local area, from visiting Tintagel Castle, King Arthur’s birthplace, to wandering around the pretty coastal villages and towns like Boscastle and Padstow. There are plenty of beaches around and if you want to give surfing a go, head down to Polzeath for a lesson.
