Recycling of all recyclable waste
Set in its own private gardens, landscaped by the celebrated gardener Roberta Taker, Merchants House is a stately and imposing country house with spacious rooms and abundant charm. Available to rent on a self-catered basis, or with bespoke catering packages, Merchants House is the ideal country getaway for any parties of friends or family looking for an extra-special coastal holiday with no compromises on decoration, space, or opportunities to relax.
With its open plan layout and grand fireplace, the living room at Merchants House is typical of the design, combining historic grandeur with a contemporary touch to create a truly special and unique space. The decadence continues in the Andrew & Albert designed kitchen, with its range of amenities and timeless rural charm. Off this room, which offers everything you'll need to whip up a feast for a group of hungry holidaymakers using local ingredients, you can pass straight into the main living space, or out into the splendid gardens.
Upstairs, you'll find the four bedrooms, each with their own charm, and offering picturesque Devon vistas. The master bedroom looks out over Salcombe Estuary, and has its own en-suite bathroom and a king sized bed. The next bedroom has a versatile zip-link set up, which can be configured as a Superking sized bed or twin singles, and the third bedroom has a doubled bed. The final bedroom is ideal for children or teenagers, with its own en-suite, twin beds, and both a TV in the bathroom and a Bluetooth speaker set.
Although the grandeur and size of the rooms is appealing, most guests staying at Merchants House tend to spend the bulk of their holiday outside. Whether you're a seasoned traveller to this region of Devon's coastline or this is your very first outing, you're bound to be seduced by the beauty and charm of Salcombe estuary. Popular with swimmers, sunbathers, boaters and fishing enthusiasts, Salcombe is a real gem, and a magical spot which keeps people returning year after year.
From the front door, you can be on White Strands Pontoon in just five minutes. For a great local pub with fantastic Devon ales and fresh seafood, head to Boatswains at the Kings Arms. The Ferry Inn also offers great seaside views, with a wonderful atmosphere. If you feel like striking out further, the coastal path will take you to a number of eateries, from family friendly cafes to marvellous coastal gastropubs. Alternatively, remain in the grounds, and lounge in any one of the various outdoor dining and sitting areas, with a cup of coffee, a good book, and one of your close friends.
