Lynher Hut is a beautifully crafted shepherds hut for a couple or small family, which offers a gorgeous glamping escape with a view…and what a view! Situated within prestigious and historic Mount Edgcumbe Country Park in Cornwall, this handsome hut sits on the Rame peninsular overlooking flourishing countryside, Plymouth Docks and the sea. This beautiful location is simply stunning and presents guests with one of the very best views around.
Guests will have so many activities to choose from at this 18th-century, 855-acre country park, which sits snugly around the red brick Tudor stately home. Discover the 1200 BC Bronze Age burial mound that shelters the hut from the wind, a fallow deer park whose inhabitants were donated by Henry VIII, magnificent walks around the parks' extensive formal gardens and the 9-mile coastal path which leads you to the beautiful naval ports of Kingsand and Cawsand. The park surrounding Lynher Hut is full to the brim with spectacular views, layers of historical fascination, and experiences that will stay with you forever.
This sumptuous shepherd's hut sleeps four with two single bunks with woollen blankets and pillows aplenty, and, tucked into the wall above the table is a double fold-out bed, which sits cleverly on top of the table, transforming the hut into a 4-person sleeping cocoon.
Fold the table back up for a dining area with benches either side. A small wood burner sits in the middle of the hut for cooler evenings, or to dry off after a dip in the sea. All the cutlery, crockery and cooking equipment you'll need is stored cleverly near to the fire, as well as essentials such as candles, torches and wood for the fire. You'll even find a few 50's inspired games and books dotted around the hut to keep you entertained of an evening.
Outside, you have chairs at the foot of the hut for your morning coffee, as well as a larger bench and fire pit area for evenings under this great expanse of sky, watching the flickering flames of the fire, the glimmer of the city lights on the horizon, and the twinkling of the night's stars above.
A moveable kitchen pod provides everything you would need for cooking a hearty breakfast, or, if self-catering is not your style, then there are two café restaurants on site that provide breakfast and dinner. The bathroom block is around 150 metres from the huts, offering a private shower room with an entry code provided on arrival, and flushing toilets and wash basins.
Mount Edgcumbe Country Park is in south-east Cornwall, around a 50-minute drive from Plymouth harbour. However, thanks to the Cremyll Ferry, guests can easily access downtown Plymouth in just under ten minutes from Lynher Hut, crossing the border from Cornwall to Devon. This is one of the most ancient continual ferry routes in Britain, dating from the 11th century and run by the Edgcumbe family for over 400 years.
Mount Edgcumbe sits right on the Cornish border with Devon, and was actually once part of Devon, but was handed back to the county some decades ago. From the park, you have spectacular views over Drake's Island, Devil's point, Mount Batten, and the hills of Dartmoor in the distance.
