The Details...

Set just back from the coast on the extraordinary Koa Tree Project camp are the Wood Cabins, a collection of Norwegian style raised timber lodges sleeping up to four people between a double bed and two singles. In the heart of the Westcountry, the open plan Wood Cabins at Koa Tree Camp are the perfect place for couples and families to get back to nature and spend time on some of the most beautiful coastline in Britain while learning about sustainable ecological and agricultural practices.

Each timber cabin comes with a double bed, and either twin singles or bunk beds, making it the perfect accommodation option for smaller families looking for a place to stay for a long weekend or week away. Cleverly designed to minimise their eco-footprints and maximise their hygge, all of the cabins benefit from a living turf roof which keeps them cool in summer and warm in winter, as well as providing an excellent resource for bees and butterflies. The interiors of the chalets are straightforward and cosy, with simple painted walls or exposed chipboard. Every one comes with its own wood-burning stove, and benefits from a private timber decking facing down towards the coast, as well as an outdoor barbecue for cooking up an al fresco feast in the long Westcountry evenings.

The kitchen and bathroom facilities are housed in the Rainy Day Room, an extraordinary converted barn which is the ideal place to congregate and chat to other couples and families. It contains multiple individual cooking units, and six private bath and shower rooms, each with their own theme, as well as ample soft furniture and games. There is also an outdoors communal firepit and pizza oven, as well as a home cinema space in a rustic outbuilding.

Given the tranquillity and beautiful open vistas of Koa Tree Camp, many guest see very little reason to stray far away. There are a range of communal activities including group meals, film nights, outdoor yoga, and even a massage cabin, meaning guests can be as involved in Koa life as they want. The coast is close by, and surfing lessons and/or equipment can easily be arranged for guests. This area of Devon is staggeringly beautiful and easily explorable on foot, by car, or on a bicycle. That said, many guests choose to spend their time getting to know the other campers, or enjoying a cup of coffee and the seasonal menu at the onsite Two Bears Caf.
