This gorgeous cottage on the Norfolk-Suffolk border perfectly blends medieval and modern, contemporary design. This rural holiday home is set among what was once the grounds of Gawdy Hall Estate and sits next to a 15th Century church.
Historical from the outside, those staying step into a stylish cottage that has maintained many original features alongside several quirky touches. Sleeping up to six guests, the property has a wonderfully comfy living room with an open fireplace, log burner, and rustic exposed beams. There's also a door from the living room out into the garden. You enter the property via the front door off the driveway straight into the well equipped, modern farmhouse-style kitchen, complete with breakfast bar and stools, as well as a dining area with table, chair, and benched seating, so dinner times are a real joy.
Also on the ground floor is the family bathroom, which has a stunning roll top bath and shower overhead. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, which perfectly blend old and new and offer nice views of the cottage gardens. One of the bedrooms also has an en-suite WC for added privacy, while there is an optional third bedroom with a sofa bed.
Outside guests can make use of and enjoy their own private and secluded garden, that's complete with outdoor furniture - perfect for some alfresco dining, or taking in the peace and quiet of the countryside alongside a drink.
Despite its seemingly remote location, it is only a short walk into the charming market town of Harleston. With its narrow streets and winding alleys it’s well worth a visit - particularly on Wednesday, which is market day. Also on the River Waveney is Bungay and its historical attractions, such as Bigod’s Castle and the ancient Buttercross.
If those staying are after a pleasant seaside vibe, they need look no further than Southwold on the Suffolk Heritage Coast and its sandy beach, pier, and busy harbour. For those who want something a little livelier, then it is only a 30-minute drive into the capital of Norfolk - Norwich. This thriving city has something going on whatever the time of year, as well as an array of bars and restaurants, while the Cathedral Quarter is a must see.
Norwich Airport - 55 minutes
