When it comes to accommodation with an interesting back story, it doesn’t get much better than Horse Hut. From its humble beginnings as a horse box used for polo and shire horse shows, it’s been thoughtfully converted into a luxurious countryside retreat for two, while still maintaining its horsey heritage.
Perfectly positioned on a farm in the rolling Hampshire hills, in the aptly named ‘Horse Field’ where shires once roamed, this quirky find is a real hidden gem. With green fields as far as the eye can see and spectacular views over the breathtaking Hattingley Valley, you’ll really feel like you’ve got away from from it all in this little slice of country paradise.
Stepping inside the unique hut, you’ll find a spacious living area with a comfortable horseshoe sofa and enormous log burner to keep you toasty in the winter. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you’d expect to find, including an oven, microwave, hobs, grill and dishwasher. With stunning far reaching views from the kitchen window, even washing-up will be a pleasure, especially while listening to music from the 1970s record player.
The light and airy bedroom boasts a bespoke four poster bed, and horse-themed paintings by a local artist give a nod to the hut’s equestrian past. There’s also an ensuite with WC, hand basin and walk-in shower.
The outdoor space at Horse Hut really has the wow factor, with a choice of characterful areas to sit and relax. A huge, covered verandah runs the length of the hut so you can enjoy outdoor living whatever the weather. Here you’ll find a daybed seating area, a gas BBQ and a counter with bar stools – the perfect place for breakfast with a view or to sip your favourite cocktail as you watch the sunset. In the enclosed garden, there’s another seating area with a firepit, and for the ultimate in quirky decadence, a Lotus hot tub with a built-in radio and jaw dropping vistas over the Hattingley Valley Vineyard.
With its wonderfully rural location, there are countless opportunities for exploring the local area on foot directly from Horse Hut. You’re just a short stroll from the village of Medstead, which has a convenience store and a pub, and if you jump in the car, historic Winchester, with its delightful independent shops and medieval cathedral, is less than half an hour away.
