  The Detail...

Close to the picturesque and charming literary town of Hay-on-Wye, in a tranquil and authentically magical village, Harp Cottage is a stunning 17th Century house. The property has been painstakingly renovated in a manner which remains true to its original aesthetic while still bringing the comforts of the 21st Century to a four hundred year old property. Harp Cottage is a delight to stay in, whether youre a family of five, a combination of couples or a group of friends looking to spend time in the rugged beauty of the Welsh borders.

Harp Cottage is a quintessential rural house, with an upmarket farmhouse-chic dcor. With log burners, whitewashed walls, and exposed timber, this is the sort of warm and cosy cottage, where a roaring fire beckons after a long days walk through the valleys followed by a pint of local ale and a delicious home cooked feast. On the ground floor, youll find the living room with its lovely intact original flagstone floor. The spacious and comforting kitchen has been updated with a five-burner Smeg range and electric oven, as well as a fridge-freezer and microwave. Staples like olive oil and coffee are provided, to prevent endless dashes to the shops. On this level there is a utility room with a lavatory and washing machine, ensuring that whatever the weather youre ready to strike out each morning.

Upstairs, there are three rustic, light-filled bedrooms, one with a king sized bed, one with a versatile zip and link king sized or twin singles, and a third with a single bed. Throughout, plastered walls and beams are finished in white and cream paints, floorboards shine with lustre, and windows offer pastoral views of greenery and the local wildlife. This is the sort of self-catering house where you rarely feel the need to spend evenings away from home; between the DVD enabled television, the many books and games, the Wi-Fi and the two woodburning stoves, there really are endless entertainment options.

That said, guests who live to explore and immerse themselves in their surroundings will be delighted by the businesses and activities nearby. The many delights of Hay-on-Wye, town of books are a short distance away, a treat during any time of year. Within easy walking distance is The Harp, a gastropub with a Michelin star, offering fantastic local ales as well as award-winning local food. Also investigate The Stagg Inn at Titley. A well kept secret, nearby Presteigne is a town brimming with charm, offering its own festivals and excellent local music. This is a great place to pick up artisan baked bread, cuts of meat, fresh fish and seafood, and other provender to prepare a family or friends meal back at Harp Cottage.
