Halsham House offers two beautiful suites and the chance to stay in a stunning red brick Tudor property which was founded during the reign of Elizabeth l. The house, which can be accessed via a leafy, peaceful lane, started as a centre of learning, and briefly served as an alms house before transitioning into a private residence. It has even featured on Britain’s Most Haunted in 2016!
Today the house is part of a conservation area comprising a 13th century church and the 18th century Constable Mausoleum. It is overflowing with original features and oozes character wherever you look. The suites are private and located at the front of the house, where you will enter through a shared foyer and ascend the stone staircase to your room, encountering several historic features along the way. The interior of each is stunning, with beautiful antique furniture and lots of thoughtful and luxurious touches.
The Tudor Suite, resplendent with an imposing wooden carved king size bed, is exceptionally well designed and in-keeping with the period of the house. It’s comfortably furnished private sitting area is the ideal spot to curl up with a book and a hot drink from the complimentary tea and coffee station. Or gaze out the window at the beautiful views over the Yorkshire countryside while you soak up the history of your surroundings.
The stunning wood-panelled bathroom in the Tudor Suite boasts an opulent roll-top bathtub and a feature ‘living’ wall covered in lush greenery. Or wrap yourself in the rich, warm colours of The Windsor Suite, with its king size, four-poster bed, cosy seating area and spacious bathroom filled with natural light and a large bathtub. Perfect for relaxing soaks after a long walk in the Yorkshire countryside. Both rooms have soft, sumptuous towels and Neal's Yard toiletries for that extra touch of luxury.
During your stay, you can enjoy the private grounds and surrounding conservation area. Explore the beautiful garden with its huge old trees, statues, fountains, Koi, and romantic nooks. There are several local country pubs that are perfect for dining out, or takeaway services are available, with some offering delivery to your door. Although the property is rural, there are opportunities to visit local attractions, numerous walking and cycle routes, golf, and chances to explore the beautiful coastal scenery. For the more adventurous, York and Scarborough are just over an hour away by car.
