Located in a quiet spot on the Portnellan Estate in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park in Scotland, this chalet is a fantastic base for exploring the Central Highlands. It’s set high on the hillside, overlooking the rugged landscape of Glen Dochart and couldn’t feel further from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. After a busy day mountain biking along the local trails, fishing on the estate or kayaking along the river, snuggle up in your cosy alpine-inspired lodge and enjoy the views of Loch Iubhair and the mountains beyond.
The chalet has recently been refurbished to combine an alpine theme with traditional Highland style. The timber lodge uses natural wood inside and out, alongside tweeds, bone-styled door handles and Highland scenes etched on the glass internal door and shower screen. All of this, along with the Scandinavian designed wood burning stove, creates a cosy hideaway in the mountains.
There’s a large open plan living and kitchen space with a big comfy sofa and armchair perfectly positioned in front of the big glass sliding doors with the spectacular views beyond. Sit back in the evenings and watch the sunset over Glen Dochart as you get stuck into a family board game or a good film on the TV. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you’ll need to whip up the family favourites and you’ll also find a heated boot and coat cupboard which comes in handy after a day exploring the estate or the national park.
The chalet sleeps up to six guests in total across three bedrooms. There’s a king size double and two twin rooms, great for trips away with the family. All of the rooms have luxurious pocket sprung mattresses with cashmere tops and crisp white Egyptian cotton bed linen. The modern bathroom has a shower and a deep bath, perfect for a long soak after a walk through the estate.
There’s plenty to do within the Pertnellan Estate itself with some fantastic facilities right on your doorstep. There’s wild salmon and trout fishing in the estate’s lochs and river and you’ll be able to explore the waterways further with Canadian canoes, kayaks and rowing boats available. Venture along the trails through woodland and up into the hills on foot or by mountain bike or a clay pigeon shoot can be arranged. On days when the weather isn’t looking so inviting, you’ll also have access to a games room and a small gym.
