Hidden away on the Isle of Wight in the charming town of Ventnor, you’ll find this gorgeous holiday cottage packed with style and charm. Etchings was built in the 1890s, however, a modern extension has added another layer to its unique character. The original oak floors and features such as Victorian fireplaces sit alongside contemporary furniture and a vibrant colour palette. This seamlessly comes together to create a luxurious but cosy cottage which is a real home-from-home.
Step inside and you’ll find two welcoming sitting rooms to the left and right of the front door. An eclectic collection of comfy seating, including an antique Chinese day bed, provides plenty of space for everyone to kick back and relax. The lower ground floor of the house is taken up by the modern kitchen and pantry, a utility room and a beautiful dining room. You’ll find the kitchen fully equipped and the dining room features a stunning slate wall which forms the backdrop for evenings in with home-cooked food, friends and family.
Etchings has three bedrooms, two king-size doubles and a twin. The master bedroom is located on the first floor and features a walk-in wardrobe and a skylight which makes the space light and airy during the day and presents the opportunity for a bit of stargazing at night. French doors lead out to a small balcony with steps to the rock garden. The second double is also on this floor with the family bathroom, which has a luxurious roll-top bath, and a separate wet room. You’ll find the cosy twin room next to the sitting rooms and alongside a toilet with a washbasin.
There are two gorgeous outdoor spaces, a courtyard and a small raised garden. The courtyard is accessed via the kitchen and there’s plenty of room for everyone to sit and perhaps enjoy a few meals outdoors. The raised rock garden, accessed via the master bedroom, has more seating where you can relax and soak up the views across Ventnor’s rooftops and out to sea.
Ventnor itself is a vibrant little town and the High Street is just a minute’s walk away. Explore the shops, try some of the cafes and restaurants or set off on one of the footpaths. Etchings is perfectly located for a whole host of day trips to the surrounding towns and villages and there are plenty of country pubs with roaring fires in the winter and beer gardens in the summer. Ventnor beach is a five-minute stroll from the front door and coastal paths stretch off in either direction promising spectacular views and a few well-placed pubs along the way.
