Combining luxury, history and sustainability is Clayoquet Wilderness Resort, a turn of the century inspired outpost in British Columbia in Canada. After arriving by floatplane and being taken to the camp by horse and cart, guests stay in 1 of the 18 white canvas prospector tents in this privately owned and operated resort.
Inside the ensuite tents, which are arranged along the water's edge and hillside overlooking the estuary, is real 5- star luxury. Each comes with a king size bed and additional queen size sofa bed, antique furnishings, heated floor, propane-fuelled cast iron ‘woodstove’, vintage oil lamps and bathroom complete with toilet, double sinks and private outdoor covered shower. There are 12 tents situated on the secluded Bedwell river and 4 others are on the foreshore facing the rising sun. There are also 2 new rainforest ensuite tents across the boardwalk and nestled in the forest.
Private decks and seating areas offer the perfect spot for taking in the magnificent views of the estuary and all its wildlife. There are 2 further dining tents and the cookhouse, which all act as the social hub of Clayoquet. The bistro dining tent is great for small get togethers, while the family dining tent is ideal for larger groups. The cookhouse has floor to ceiling windows on one side and is a hive of activity day and night. The cuisine prepared by the artisan chefs utilises local ingredients from the Clayoquet Sound and Vancouver Island.
The games tent offers vintage pastimes, while the activities tent is actually where most choose to relax and unwind. Further gathering spots are provided by the outdoor lounge and fireplace. Those who want to de-stress even further can visit the Healing Grounds Spa, complete with treatment rooms for massages, yoga, cedar hot tubs and wet and dry saunas. All of this is complemented by a large waterfront deck with glorious views.
The more adventurous can partake in one of the many activities on offer. This includes; horse riding, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, surfing, archery, hiking, rock climbing, whale watching, fishing, helicopter adventures and much more.
