The detail

On the outskirts of the charming village of Marthon in France's Charente department sits this astounding getaway, teeming with grandeur. The exterior showcases original period features, huge windows that flood the interior with natural light, castle turrets, and original stonework. Inside guests are presented with high ceilings and ornate features, internationally acclaimed interior design, and modern features, all delivered with style and attention to detail.

Chateau de la Couronne is a traditional French castle with nine bedrooms, a cinema, games room, three salons, a guest office, a huge dining hall, a football pitch (that’s right), and over five acres of beautifully kept grounds to explore. There's even a heated swimming pool at your disposal for use throughout your stay.

The Chateau boasts three spacious salons, each as meticulously decorated as the last. All of these grand spaces offer something unique: one has a bar, one a baby grand piano, while all three look onto the gorgeous garden terrace. The spacious and fabulously equipped kitchen is warm and pleasing on the eye whilst offering up wooden surfaces, modern artwork, ancient doors used as wall hangings and fabulous moody lighting. With two ovens, gas range, three work-stations and all the utensils and equipment you need to create delicious meals for your group, the kitchen makes dinner prep a breeze. The grand dining hall is spacious and provides the perfect place to enjoy big meals together as a group long into the evening.

When it comes to winding down late in the day, there is a games room complete with a full size, slate bed, US pool table, while the cinema room has a nine foot screen, surround sound, blu-ray player and a full HD projector. And if you need to get some work done on your holiday. the guest office is the perfect place.

When bedtime beckons, there are nine bedrooms in all, each one incredibly spacious and with its own unique character. All the bedrooms have a flat screen TV and a DVD player, and five of the bedrooms even have their own wine chillers! There are eight luxurious bathrooms in total, three of which have a pair of baths, four have one big, deep bath, and the final bathroom features a huge, two metre long shower. All of these bathrooms are wonderfully designed and spacious, with decadent features and stylish touches throughout.

Step outside the chateau where you can relax on the garden terrace, recline by the pool, and explore over five acres of beautifully manicured gardens.

While Chateau de la Couronne has more than enough to keep you occupied, the local area is full of things to do. The tiny village of Marthon boasts facilities that would make larger towns blush, including a boulangerie, a butcher, a general store, and its own cinema. The region is well known for its beautiful scenery, and it is a particular favourite with walkers and cyclists. Indeed, there are many bridleways and footpaths just a short way from the chateau. For a relaxing paddle down the River Tardoire, be sure to pay a visit to the nearby kayak centre. For the speed demons, a championship level go-karting course is a 15-minute drive away.
