Set in the countryside, just outside the West Sussex village of Southwater, this iconic Airstream is a romantic escape for two. The idyllic location, surrounded by panoramic views of the countryside and with a terrace outside where you can sit out late into the evening by the firepit is peaceful at any time of year.
The Airstream is a true American icon, immediately recognisable from the distinctive rounded shape and the polished aluminium exterior. Step inside and you’ll find the beautiful design doesn’t stop there. The interior feels spacious with big windows letting in plenty of natural light and creating a bright and airy atmosphere. To the rear, there’s a bedroom large enough for a sumptuous king-size bed with duck feather bedding and Egyptian cotton sheets. You’ll also find fluffy bathrobes, towels and slippers waiting for you.
Move through from the bedroom and there’s a bathroom, complete with a shower. There’s also a well-equipped kitchen where you can rustle up a feast. Alternatively, cook over the open flames outside on the fire pit's grill. The cosy dining area has the slightly retro feel of an American diner and enjoys beautiful views out over the Sussex countryside through the windows. At the front of the Airstream, surrounded by more big windows, you’ll find a comfy living space. Curl up on the sofa in front of a film or put your feet up with a good book as you recover from a long walk.
Outside, there’s a terrace with outdoor furniture, a fire pit with a grill and panoramic views. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, light a fire and sit out as the stars appear and put on quite a show on clear nights. The rural location means light pollution is at a minimum and the Milky Way has been spotted from here on occasion.
If you can tear yourself away from your tranquil hideaway, there’s plenty to do in the local area. There are lots of walking trails to explore and you can get to many of these without having to get in the car. If you want to venture a little further, the South Downs National Park is nearby, as is the Knepp Estate re-wilding project. You’ll also find plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs to keep you well-fed during your stay, the area is increasingly becoming known as a foodie spot.
