Thanks to the row of French doors running along one side of the living space, this apartment in central Madrid is a veritable suntrap. The design works to accentuate this natural asset, particularly the large house plants, leafy rug and golden palm light shade, which all lend a tropical feel.
Although it's an apartment only intended for two, the sleek white kitchen is of a decent enough size to knock up hearty dinners and the dining area doesn't feel cramped in any way. Add in the smart grey bathroom and a comfy bedroom, and you've got an excellent base from which to enjoy the best of Madrid.
Many of the city's sights lie nearby, including the Royal Palace and the Campo del Moro gardens behind, which both can be reached in five minutes on foot. It must also be said that the building in which this apartment sits is also worthy of attention, too. Built in 1915 by the architect Joaquín de la Concha Alcalde, it's a striking example of Madrilenian modernism, complete with bay windows, mouldings and decorative finishes inspired by the Art Nouveau movement
Nested between world-famous sights, this is a lush and peaceful neighbourhood. With Palacio Real and Teatro Real at one end and quirky shops like La Central bookshop at the other, residents of this neighbourhood are spoiled for choice on what to do. If you like being within walking distance to the Spanish Royal Family’s official lodgings (even though they spend most of their time in the more modest Palacio de la Zarzuela), then you’ll feel right at home in this area.
