The detail

Tucked away in the countryside of South Devon, just a few miles down the road from Dartmouth, this cosy holiday lodge makes for a peaceful family retreat. Bowden Wood is newly built and has a beautifully designed interior that will make you feel at home right away. Spend your days exploring the surrounding countryside, taking picnics to the beach and playing tennis on the private court. All before a hearty dinner back at the lodge and putting your feet up in front of the wood-burner.

Step inside and you’ll find the lodge has been carefully thought out, with plenty of space for your outdoor gear and muddy boots in the entrance hall and utility room. The contemporary living space is open plan and filled with natural light thanks to the large windows and glass doors that lead to the decking outside. The stylish kitchen is complete with silestone worksurfaces and a dishwasher. This leads through to a dining area and the cosy lounge with inviting sofas and a wood-burning stove to keep you toasty in the evenings.

There are two bedrooms, one double and a twin. In the master bedroom, you’ll find a luxurious super-king size bed and an en suite shower room. Both of the bedrooms have views to the rear of the lodge and their own terraces, the perfect spot for your morning cup of coffee. If you need space for an extra guest or two, there’s a snug through the lounge with a sofa bed. This space has a folding door to close it off from the lounge and offer a bit of privacy if it’s being used as a bedroom.

Step out onto the main terrace through the doors in the lounge and you’ll find garden furniture so you can sit back and relax on sunny afternoons. The terrace overlooks the lawns and the gardens and there are wonderful views out to the hills and valleys beyond. Guests have access to a private tennis court and there’s also some play equipment to keep the kids busy.

If you can drag yourself away from your tranquil little hideaway, there’s plenty to explore in the surrounding area. There are endless walking trails through the countryside of South Devon and Bowden Wood is only a mile from the sweeping sandy beach of Blackpool Sands. Head a little further up the coast and you’ll find Dartmouth, a vibrant coastal town with plenty of fresh seafood on the menu, independent shops and a castle to explore.
