Retro caravan refurbished with high end amenities and upcycled Land Rover eco hot tub overlooking the lovely Taw valley
Bluebird Penthouse is listed in affiliation with Airbnb.
Perched high above the patchwork pastures and twinkling lights of Devon’s beautiful and tranquil Taw Valley, Bluebird Penthouse is a vintage caravan which has been set up to take in stunning vistas of the plunging valley. Updated to bring twenty first century comfort to the style and character of the 1950s, the caravan is accompanied by a hot tub, a chiminea, and a gas barbecue, as well as ample outside furniture.
No detail or opportunity has been overlooked in the design and renovation of this dream spot. Fully insulated and heated by a biomass generator which runs on sustainable wood from the nearby farm, Bluebird Penthouse is snug and comfortable throughout the year. In the summer months, gather around on the outdoor seating and tuck into a hot meal fresh from the grill. By winter, gaze out of the multiple windows at the sky above and valley below. As well as everything you’d expect from a high-end self-catering caravan, there are a number of quirky touches you won’t see anywhere else, like the underground wine cellar and the hot tub fitted in a repurposed Land Rover chassis from the farm. Suffice to say, the tub is also heated with renewable biomass energy, allowing you to indulge in a guilt-free soak.
Bluebird Penthouse is one of those places which has to be experienced first hand to be truly appreciated. There is something about the configuration of the caravan with the hot tub and valley below which simply dispels stress and radiates pleasure. Guests can simply feel their troubles and frustrations slip away as they gaze out over the valley, or stroll from their designer caravan to their upcycled hot tub and back. Traverse between elements of the small, private clearing on hand-crafted wooden walkways, enjoy your evening cocktail on the decking, and take in the morning light and air as though there is no one else in the world.
The wooded slopes of the Taw Valley are known and celebrated through the United Kingdom, drawing holidaymakers from all over, beguiled by the beauty, peacefulness, and unique Westcountry way of life. A great activity for creative types is visiting Tony Cummings' excellent glass workshop right in High Bickington itself. Learn about various techniques and get to know a real glass artisan using techniques handed down for generations. Golf enthusiasts should pack their clubs and make a beeline for the excellent Libbaton Golf Club.
