The Details...

Escape to some of the most incredible scenery in Great Britain at Bannatyne Cottage, a former lock-keeper's dwelling on Scotland's Crinan Canal. Nestled on the banks of the spectacular 9-mile waterway through the Kintyre Peninsula, this 19th Century cottage has been renovated to become a beautiful 21st Century getaway.

Bannatyne accommodates up to 4 guests. The living and dining area has a comfy sofa, TV, DVD, and CD player, as well as a wood burning stove for those cosy nights in. There is also a dining table and chairs for 4 people. The well equipped kitchen is modern and stylish, acting as a nice contrast to the rustic charm of this historical building. It is complete with an oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, and washer/dryer.

Elsewhere in the cottage are the 2 bedrooms - one of which has a king size bed and the other is a twin. Both of these have been designed to seamlessly blend traditional touches with splashes of colour and modern luxury; as well as offering superb views across the canal and beyond into the Scottish countryside. The family bathroom has a bath, shower, basin, and toilet. Outside there is a private garden which is perfect for whiling away an afternoon in and enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings.

The property itself is found on Lock 11 of the canal, which stretches all the way to the white sands and amazing coastline of the Inner Hebrides and Western Isles. From the doorstep there is so much to explore and discover. Whether wanting to go walking, cycling, fishing, or taking a boat trip out to the islands, there is plenty on offer. Wildlife is teaming in the region, with eagles hunting overhead, while dolphins, seals, and even basking sharks can be seen by boat. The Scottish Beaver Trail at Knapdale is also worth visiting.

The nearest village is Cairnbaan, a fascinating place with a history that stretches back more than 5,000 years with intriguing prehistoric ring and cup markings on the rocks of Kilmartin Glen. Nearby is also the Iron Age Dunadd Fort, which was used by ancient Scottish Royals when they surveyed their kingdom.

"Situated in a beautiful place on the canal and was wonderful to watch the boats go by. We had a great week walking with our dogs and were lucky with the weather. The cottage had all the basics (no DVD player as listed) but is in need of a good clean and updating inside and out as is looking very tired."
