Breakfast gazing out towards the majestic Black Mountains, hike the Brecon Beacons and wild swim in the waterfalls and rivers of this magical Welsh idyll. Use the stunning Courtyard Cottage as a stylish and romantic base to explore hills and valleys, leave stresses behind and reconnect with nature. A traditional stone walled, slate roofed, home, guests will be enchanted by the lovely property from the moment they arrive.
For a relaxing start to the stay, sink into one of two large sofas in the large living room. Exposed brick walls and tongue and groove panelling has been white washed and, together with the windows set into the pitched roof, make a bright and calming environment. Sunshine pours over guests as they relax and make plans and at night you can enjoy romantic, cosy evenings by the wood burner.
Double doors take guests through to the spacious and stylish bedroom. Thick, floor length curtains keep the room cosy and snug at night and pull back to reveal semi-circle shaped windows which fill with light on those sunny summer mornings. A shabby-chic dresser provides plenty of storage for clothing, no matter how long the stay. The large double is dressed with 100 per cent cotton linens and a warm woollen blanket which was made nearby. Above the bedstead sits a lovely wall hanging which compliments the thoughtful decor in the rest of the room.
Slipping through to the neighbouring bathroom and guests will be forgiven for spending half of their stay soaking in the claw foot, roll top bath, contemplating the day gone and planning tomorrow. This traditional, yet modern, room has large flag stone flooring, metro tiles, a walk-in shower and large upright radiator. The handsome flooring is continued in the pretty kitchen. Windows sit above the work counters making washing up a pleasure and providing cooks with plenty of inspiration. An integrated oven is set amongst sleek muted olive cupboards which are complemented by the attractive red blinds.
Visitors will love cooked breakfast at the traditional round wooden table, fortifying themselves for a day on the hills. Outside in the courtyard there are more dining options, an iron table and chairs for mid-morning coffee or a glass of wine before dinner.
The cottage is close to the historic market town of Abergavenny. The market is still popular - bargain hunters will love browsing the Flea Market, held every Wednesday. The town is also home to a great butchers, bakery and other local shops. Foodies will want to make reservations at The Walnut Tree Restaurant, just three miles from Abergavenny, and 1861 which is situated in the Monmouthshire Hills.
