Hidden away on the shores of Lake Windermere, High Stott Park Retreat is a cosy escape for four. The apartment is part of the nineteenth century Stock Park Mansion with some of the original features still on show, such as beautiful wood parquet floors, panelling and high ceilings. You can stroll down to the lake directly from the apartment via the large garden and sweeping lawns and make use of the boat parking space. After a day exploring the fells and villages of the Lake District, High Stott Park Retreat, with its log burner, large sofas and spectacular views, is the perfect place to recover and plan the next day’s adventures.

Step into your cosy corner of the grand Stock Park Mansion and you’ll find yourself in a large hallway, perfect for storing all your outdoor gear, with plenty of room for everyone’s coats and boots. After a particularly muddy or long walk, you can head straight into the bathroom for a soak in the bath. Underfloor heating adds an extra bit of luxury, especially in the colder months.

The hallway leads into a spacious open plan living room and kitchen where high ceilings, large windows and contemporary furnishings create a welcoming and relaxing space. The kitchen is equipped to a standard even the keenest of chefs will appreciate and there’s a dining table for four. The living area is centred around the log burner, the perfect place to put your feet up after a day on the fells. There are also two armchairs by the windows overlooking the lake which makes a wonderful spot for a morning coffee while planning the day’s walks. The two bedrooms are both large and bright. The king-size bedroom enjoys stunning views down to the lake and has a sumptuous bed. The twin room next door can be made up into a super king on request and has charming views of the garden and the woodland.

The apartment also has access to the mansion’s large gardens. On sunny days, head outside and soak up the views across the lawns and fields down to the lake from the bench on the terrace. Venture down to the lake’s shore and discover the natural shelving beach that means you can go for a dip if you’re brave enough. A jetty also provides access to the lake and High Stott Park Retreat has its own boat parking space. A grassy area with a walkway down by the shore is a lovely spot for a picnic with views across the water.

High Stott Park Retreat is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful landscape of the southern Lake District. Popular as a destination for walking holidays, there are endless trails through enchanting woodland, over craggy fells and along the shores of stunning lakes. Go for a cruise on Lake Windermere or relax at Lakeside Hotel’s spa. Try your hand at sailing or visit Beatrix Potter’s home, now carefully preserved by the National Trust. After a busy day exploring, head back to High Stott Park Retreat, put your feet up in front of the fire, and relax.
