Nestled at the foot of Shaftesbury’s famous Gold Hill in a secluded courtyard, this charming 18th-century cottage is full of character. The Pump Yard is steeped in history and is now a gated courtyard set on a picturesque road offering the feel of a tranquil village. It’s just a ten minute stroll into town and is on the edge of the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which offers 380 square miles of countryside to explore.
Wander through the charming Pump Yard and into the cottage and you’ll find a cosy interior waiting for you. There are exposed wooden beams overhead and sumptuous sofas, armchairs and beds to sink into. The decor is a mix of contemporary furnishings and antique-style pieces which beautifully complement the character of the cottage. The dark green chimney breast in the living room and the pink feature wall in the kitchen add to the warm atmosphere.
After you’ve been for a long walk amidst the beautiful scenery of Cranborne Chase, kick off your boots and put your feet up on the sofa in the living room. The wood burner-style stove is a nice touch that adds to the cosy feel of the room. Alternatively, enjoy a long soak in the bath to soothe any tired legs. The kitchen has been newly refurbished with bespoke teak furnishings and everything you’ll need to rustle up some delicious home-cooked meals. There’s also a little breakfast nook that overlooks the courtyard, a lovely spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee.
Head upstairs to find the bedrooms. There’s a double and a twin room, making this a great cottage for couples or families. Both bedrooms have extra deep mattresses and fully lined curtains or blackout blinds to help you get a great night’s sleep.
There’s plenty of exploring to do in the local area. Start by heading up Gold Hill to discover art galleries, museums and Shaftesbury Abbey and take in the beautiful views over Blackmore Vale. There are lots of places to grab a quick bite to eat or to enjoy a more leisurely dinner on Shaftesbury High Street. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor activities and walking routes with Cranborne Chase on your doorstep. This beautiful area of countryside is a chalk plateau straddling Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Somerset and you’ll find rolling hills, ancient woodland and river valleys to explore.
