The detail

Venton Vean is a lovely Victorian bed and breakfast built from traditional Cornish stone surrounded by beautiful gardens filled with a variety of pretty plants and foliage. The warm Penzance climate brings out glorious blooms in this typical Cornish garden giving it a tropical feel and making it a wonderfully relaxing base to explore this lovely corner of the country from.

The owners have decorated and furnished the rooms with a mixture of vintage and modern furnishings and decor, maintaining the wonderful character of the property without compromising the style and conveniences of the 21st Century.

Light and bright in the daylight but warm, cosy and dark at night, rooms have been decorated and designed to create spacious areas for guests to enjoy whatever the time of day or night. High ceilings and traditional sash windows let in an abundance of natural light and original art covers the walls, a nod to the artistic heritage of the area.

All rooms have king sized beds with luxury mattresses dressed with 400 thread count Egyptian Cotton and comfy goose down duvets and pillows. Visitors can enjoy early nights in front of flat screen televisions binging boxsets or catching up on movies. Every room is en-suite, with pima cotton towels and bathrobes and guests will find locally made toiletries which are natural and eco-friendly.

After a deep, restful sleep, guests enjoy breakfast in the bright breakfast room where they can enjoy a feast to keep them fuelled-up for the day ahead. All produce is locally sourced, the sausages, bacon and black pudding comes from a Penzance butcher and the fish is landed and smoked at Newlyn, just one mile away. The variety of breakfasts available is inspiring, tuck into Eggs Kejriwal or Mexican Eggs with homemade tortillas, and the owners bake as much as they can on-site. So, save space for afternoon tea out in the pretty garden, perhaps try the homemade cakes or the traditional Cornish with freshly baked scones, homemade jam and clotted cream.

With full belly's, guests head out to explore the local area and, whether it is hiking the coastal path, wild swimming, or browsing local shops and galleries, there is something for everyone. Penzance has always attracted artists due to the beautiful location and wonderful light. Visit Penlee House Gallery and Museum and The Newlyn Art Gallery to see examples of some of the artwork created by painters and sculptors inspired by the area. Of course, many are attracted by the fabulous beaches, and visitors will find a beach to suit them whether it is surfing, rockpool scrambling, sandcastle building or soaking up the sun they are searching for. And when stomach's are rumbling head to one of the many traditional pubs, The Crown and The Turk's Head are favourites, or restaurants. For fresh fish, try Mackerel Sky and The Shore.
