The Detail...
The Tudor Farmhouse offers guests the chance to enjoy a historic stay near the wonderful Forest of Dean and beautiful Wye Valley. Guests will love the atmosphere and character of the farmhouse while enjoying the culinary delights on offer in the restaurant. This lovely property is as full as character as the name suggests, timber beams criss-cross the ceilings, stone staircases spiral upwards and leaded windows offer views to the pretty kitchen garden which grows produce for the extremely well-regarded restaurant.
Wooden clad walls and flag stoned floors create an atmospheric dining atmosphere. In the winter, guests can enjoy aperitifs by the roaring fires while in summertime they can take a seat outside amongst the pretty flowers and lush foliage of the traditional English garden. Farmhouse guests can chose from 20 stunning rooms which come in four categories - Suites, Cockerels, Hens and Hatchlings.
Suites are the largest rooms situated in the very best locations within the Farmhouse. These unique rooms with have been renovated and furnished to a really high standard. The atmosphere and character has been retained but light colours and modern touches give a contemporary feel. They have comfortable lounge areas, double beds and large bathrooms with rainfall shower and roll top baths.
Cockerels are a mixture of junior suites and large rooms, all with independent layouts and individually furnished. The beds are doubles and, as with the suites, the bathrooms offer rainfall showers and roll top baths. Hens are slightly smaller but still comfortably sized. In two of the rooms, doubles convert to twin beds and one of the rooms sleeps four - there is a double bed and bunks tucked away in a cosy alcove. All the Hens have en-suite bathrooms with freestanding baths.
Finally, the cute Hatchling rooms are the smallest of the farmhouse family. They all have showers and some have been recently refurbished while others are slightly older in style.
The local area has been a popular spot for film makers in the past few years. Perhaps take a film tour and explore the locations which have inspired the director's of Star Wars, Merlin and Dr Who.
For curious foodies, the farmhouse's in-house forager, Raoul van Den Broucke, runs foraging expeditions that take guests off the beaten track. And the forest offers opportunities for outdoor pursuits for all ages and all abilities, from hiking and biking to fishing and shooting.
