The Details...

Rick Stein’s name has become synonymous with Padstow, so it seems only fitting that the fish-loving chef offers a number of charming places to stay around town. This one, The Seafood Restaurant, has the twin attractions of looking out over the pretty Camel Estuary and being right above Rick’s flagship eatery.

With rooms designed by Jill Stein, the accommodation is as impressive as the food, and offers a number of options. Even the cosiest rooms display plenty of luxurious touches – Molton Brown toiletries, Origin Coffee and Stein’s Biscuits can be expected here.

The style is clean and light, some rooms with a nautical feel and indeed views of the estuary and sea at the top end. The showers are powerful, the linens are crisp and the towels soft and fluffy – and with Freeview TV and free Wi-Fi, there’s entertainment for your downtime too.

For something even more special, treat yourself to a room with a free-standing bath, or one of the beautiful master rooms with a private roof terrace. The Steins have tried to create rooms you won’t want to leave, and it looks like they succeeded.

That said, it would really be a shame not to pop out sometime, especially when you have the delights of the restaurant below awaiting you. A Padstow fixture since 1975, The Seafood Restaurant put Rick Stein on the map, and is internationally renowned for its very, very fresh fish and shellfish. Sit at the bar and you can watch the chefs at work. It’s an experience you just can’t miss while your in town.

Mr S has numerous other places around Padstow to try too, which venture into meat and veg territory as well. There’s even a Rick Stein fish and chip shop – again, it would be rude not to, right?

When it’s not all about the eating, Padstow is a haven for water-sports – canoeing, paddleboarding, surfing and more – as well as spectacularly lovely beaches to wander on. Try Harlyn or Trevone Bay for some fresh sea air, or walk the scenic Camel Trail.

You’re also within 30 minutes’ drive of Newquay, and the Eden Project is not much further. Picturesque favourites Tintagel and Port Isaac lie a little further up the coast, too.

So, with the location, the rooms and the food this good, The Seafood Restaurant has ticked every box. North Cornwall is getting ever-more tempting.
