  The Detail...

The Drunken Duck Inn offers you the perfect spot for a relaxing break in the Lake District. Located just two-and-a-half miles from the bustling Cumbrian town of Ambleside, this getaway feels completely peaceful and secluded and offers both traditional and contemporary style.

The converted farmhouse that dates back more than 300 years is home to 13 rooms. Each has its own individual character that blends quirky charm with modern luxury. Original features, such as the exposed wooden beams and oak floors, add to the rich history and are perfectly complemented by the addition of wood burning stoves and prints and period photographs adorning the walls.

There are three different types of room to choose from depending on requirements and budget; standard, superior, and deluxe suite. Each maintains the feel of the rest of the inn with a mixture of vintage and contemporary decor and furnishings. The en-suite bathrooms are rustic, with most coming with the welcome addition of a bath alongside the separate shower. A complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea is included for guests, while there is WiFi throughout.

During the warmer times of the year those staying can make use of the Drunken Ducks veranda and small terrace with tables and chairs. Inside is the excellent restaurant - with this being one of the first gastropubs, dating back to the 1970s. There is no pretension with the setup and service, but the menu is a serious step up from the usual pub grub. There is also a bar area, while guests are free to use the leisure facilities at the nearby Langdon Hotel.

Due to its location it makes sense to make the most of the many walking trails in this beautiful corner of England. Some are right on the doorstep and take hikers down to the famous Lake Windermere. Its also worth getting in the car and making the short drive to nearby Tarn Hows and Langdale, as well, for those who want a more challenging route. Windermere itself sits by Ambleside and there are plenty of independent shops and tearooms to enjoy, while many also take to the water on one of the many cruises.
