The detail

The Control Tower Bed and Breakfast is a converted 1940’s RAF control tower that has been restored to its former modernist-glory. The owners’ philosophy is to create a period bed and breakfast, which fuses art deco chic with the simplicities of an environmentally aware, 1940’s lifestyle.

You’ll find the Control Tower in the bustling agricultural hamlet of Egmere, North Norfolk just a short drive from the scenic coastline of Wells-next-the-sea. The striking white modernist facade of the bed and breakfast hides two guest rooms - each designed to impart a sense of period living to its inhabitants. The rooms are well equipped with art deco bathrooms, period furniture, comfortable double beds, digital radios and locally sourced toiletries and wild flowers. There’s a large public living room, which has an open fire and a collection of games to be taken advantage of- perfect for a stormy evening spent in doors. The kitchen serves hearty vegetarian fare with organic teas, fresh ingredients, fruits and preserves, though if you prefer, it’s entirely possible to eat lunch al fresco in the gardens, which in summer are covered in fragrant wildflowers.

When it comes to exploring the area - you shouldn’t miss the quaint village of Wells-next-the-sea, which is located on the edge of the coast and has a beautiful collection of wild beaches and independent shops. There are a number of pubs in the area too - many serving traditional British pub food as well as plenty of ales on-tap. Speaking of Ale, the Real Ale Shop is a great place to head if you want to sample a local ale or two, while the Wildflower Centre and tea room at Letheringsett is a great option for wildlife enthusiasts, and for those wanting to experience a truly memorable 1940’s themed trip - the Holt to Sheringham steam railway is an absolute must.
