A former coaching inn, The Black Bull is an English classic with a contemporary air. The owners have done their utmost to ensure that, where possible, the various features and fixtures have been sourced from local craftspeople and artisans. Besides having a wide range of beautiful rooms, guests can avail of the very well stocked bar or enjoy some unique gourmet food (all locally sourced) in the dining room. For those who have wondered what a fusion of British, Japanese, and German cuisine might birth, wonder no longer. And if it's the country air that you seek, you're in the right place. The town of Sedbergh is overlooked by the beautiful Howgill Fells and is barely a hop and a skip from the Yorkshire Dales National Park. So, whether you're looking for a solo retreat or a couple's getaway, The Black Bull will keep you right.
The inn has 18 rooms to choose from, all finished to the highest of standards. The six double "Classic" rooms provide a budget-friendly, yet comfortable, stay. The eight "Superior" rooms reflect the owners' affinity for Japanese culture, while three have a seated balcony, and one has its very own Japanese style tub. The three "Luxury" rooms, also of a Japanese theme, each benefit from free-standing baths, and the "Suite", which has a luxury king-size bed, deep free-standing bath and an energising walk-in rain shower. All the rooms feature a selection of photographs of the local area by multi-award-winning photographer Rob Whitrow, ensuring guests feel wholly in touch with the region.
Sedbergh - one of England's book towns - is a place rich in history. With its cobbled streets, classic English pubs, charming eateries, and pretty buildings, for a small town it is easy to get lost in. Sitting just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dale, it provides a wonderful base from which to explore one of England's most beautiful National Parks. It is also just a short drive from the Lake District. Should you wish to stay local, then the beautiful Howgill Fells overlook Sedbergh and provide a fantastic vantage point from which to survey the town and beyond. Other local attractions include Fairfield Mill, Stonetrail Riding Centre, Crab Tree Clay Shoot, Boatfield Fly Fishing, and Wensleydale Creamery.
