A former coaching inn, The Black Bull is an English classic with a contemporary twist. The owners have done their utmost to ensure that, where possible, they have retained original features and alongside that have utilised local crafts people and artisans to craft individual pieces for the inn. possible. As well as being able to enjoy the luxuriously, individually appointed 18 bedrooms, guests can also enjoy a selection of locally sourced beers and spirts as well as an extensive wine list, just the thing for enjoying with head chef Nina Matsunaga’s award-winning food. If you are looking for space to breathe and take in the delights of the English countryside, then Sedbergh is your place. Nestling at the foot of Winder in the Howgill Fells, this ancient market town has lots to offer, with walks from the doorstep, alongside a wealth of other activities including horse riding cycling, sailing and mountain biking. If that all sounds far too exhausting then take the opportunity to choose a book from one of the many book shops, find a quiet corner by the fire and relax with a weighty tome and a pint and watch the world go by in England’s Booktown. So, whether you are looking for a solo retreat, a couple's getaway or a family adventure, The Black Bull will keep you right.
The inn has 18 rooms to choose from, all finished to the highest of standards. The six double "Classic" guest rooms are individually designed, with little touches that makes each distinctive, whilst providing guests with luxurious yet comfortable surroundings in which to experience their stay, including bespoke artwork, furnishings, luxuriously comfy beds, and fine linens. There are eight "Superior" guest rooms, each of which is individually designed and decorated, reflecting the owners' affinity with Japanese culture. Three rooms have seated balconies offering views of the Howgill Fells, and one has its very own Japanese style bathtub. The three individually conceived "Luxury" guest rooms, benefit from feature free-standing baths, and the totally distinctive "Suite", boasts a luxury king-size bed, deep free-standing feature bath and an energising double walk-in rain shower.
Sedbergh - England's Booktown - is a place rich in history, with numerous bookshops, cobbled courtyards, ancient buildings home to an array of charming eateries and shops, this pretty town offers plenty to do. Located in the Yorkshire Dales, it provides the perfect base to explore one of Europe’s most beautiful National Parks. It’s also handily just a short drive from the Lake District National Park should you wish to explore a little further afield, offering guests the best of both worlds. However, should you wish to simply stay local, then the beautiful Howgill Fells provide you with the ideal excuse to explore, offering a fantastic vantage point from which to survey the town and the countryside beyond.
