The Details...

Take an escape into the Australian countryside and get closer to nature, whilst enjoying the utmost luxury. A true glamping experience surrounded by the gorgeous scenery of Jervis Bay, Australia just a couple of hours south of Sydney. Paperbark Camp boasts unique tented accommodation, safari-styled and lavishly furnished, as well as warm hospitality and delicious food at the Gunyah Restaurant.

Paperbark Camp was founded in late 1998 after Irena and Jeremy Hutchings had spent years dreaming and planning. Their camp was inspired by safari accommodations they had enjoyed on trips to Africa an experience they thought would be perfect in the Australian bush. The Hutchings then discovered the natural beauty of Jervis Bay and their dreams began to take wing. The camp is still family-run today and welcomes guests from across the globe whether they are people looking to escape the madness of city-life, or out-doors enthusiasts hoping for a true Australian bush experience.

The 12 tents are raised above the ground, nestled among huge eucalypts trees and unique paperbarks. Whether you choose an Original Safari Tent, a Deluxe Safari Tent, or a King Deluxe, you will enjoy comfortable furnishing, polished hardwood floors and wrap-around outdoor decking. The tents are equipped with full insect screening and modern hotel amenities to ensure a truly indulgent experience. The tents also all have open-air, private en suites, so you can take in the amazing wildlife whilst enjoying a steaming shower or bath (should you chose the Deluxe or King Deluxe tents).

At the heart of Paperbark Camp is The Gunyah which is aboriginal for meeting place or place of shelter. Perched among the treetops, it is truly unique and impressive. Enjoy candlelit meals of delicious food or relax in the communal lounge area. In the summer months, the sliding doors are kept open for outdoor dining, so that guests can take in the impressive natural scenery and wildlife; in the cooler months the Gunyahs roaring open fire is perfect to curl up in front of. To bring you even closer to nature, and to maintain the Camps sustainable philosophy, there are no power points for electronics in the tents (though they can be found in the Gunyah) so you can really switch off and enjoy a relaxing, nature-rich stay.

Paperbark Camp prides itself hosting fantastic celebrations. The owners have extensive experience of holding weddings, family gatherings and corporate events, all made memorable in this truly unique setting.

The camp is on the banks of a tidal waterway on which you can canoe and paddle board. The first beach is 4km by bike or car at Huskisson. Jervis Bay is spectacularly beautiful taking your breath away when you emerge from the dense bush track onto the beach. The water is crystal blue and the sand is white. The bay is six times the size of Sydney Harbour and is a protected area, meaning its beauty is untouched. The Paperbark Camp offers you a unique and luxurious camping escape, surrounded by amazingly impressive natural scenery and wildlife. It is an unforgettable and unbeatable experience.
