Overlooking the magnificent Kilmartin Glen, one of the world's most important archaeological landscapes, amongst the standing stones, cairns and ancient ruins, sits the magical Kilmartin Castle. This recently renovated castle exudes character and charm whilst incorporating 21st Century luxuries and contemporary designs and furnishings. This is a fabulous large property that's ideal for groups of 10 who are looking for a grand and stylish self catering accommodation option.
The handsome Grand Hall has a deep colour scheme, full of dark hues, and thoughtfully selected furnishings which work together to enhance the considerable character of this remarkable property. A brown leather sofa dominates the rug-clad floor, a stag's head overlooks proceedings from one wall, while a large, antique gold-framed mirror leans against another.
Throughout the Castle each space has been lovingly curated, from the modern kitchen to all five of the bedrooms. Each has its own character and magical atmosphere. Climb up a hidden spiral staircase and discover the Speel. This spacious and bold room has a vaulted ceiling and a stunning copper free-standing bath set in a deep blue recess. A roof light offers glimpses of the treetops and the starry Scottish night and allows natural light to flood the room.
The most accessible room in the Castle is the Snug, it's cosy and full of romantic touches - the headboard is carved from a tree felled on the nearby Pottollach Estate, and the windows are arrow slits. 16th Century features, including an exposed stone walls and original stone barrel-vaulted ceiling, are complimented by the contemporary touches such as underfloor heating, luxurious linens and a walk-in rainfall shower.
Clark, a double room, was named after the Castle's previous owners. It boasts a wood burning stove, a Harris Tweed headboard and basins set on a Jacobean sideboard, all underneath a vaulted ceiling. The Castle was finished in 1550 - so it is fitting that the suite should be named after that historic year. Guests staying in the 1550 will be forgiven for never budging from this breathtaking room. It boasts a high beamed ceiling, stunning views across the magical glen and antique roll-top bath.
Finally, the Carswell - named after the first keeper of the Castle - is a kingsize room with a four poster bed. Traditional window recesses have been left untouched and traditional lime paint, chemical-free - has been used on the walls. Guests are spoiled with the views of the glen from this room which they can take in from the comfort of the roll top copper bath.
