In historic, quant Charlbury, The Bull is a stunning and luxurious country inn, combining locally sourced, expertly prepared food with luxurious bedrooms to create the perfect mini-break getaway in the heart of the countryside. With an unpretentious charm which marries exposed timber, vintage furniture, roaring fires and beautiful gardens, The Bull Inn is the very embodiment of the rural pub.
Renovated in 2015 by owner Charlie Crossley, elegant design and uncompromising aesthetics characterise every aspect of The Bull Inn, from its cheery and convivial dining room to the gorgeous individually styled bedrooms. With accommodation split between the converted barn and the main building, which houses the restaurant, there is abundant living space throughout. As well as a living room, bar, and main restaurant there is a beautifully planted garden, the dream spot for whiling away summer evenings with close friends and good food.
Each bedroom has been painstakingly designed to emphasise the architectural features while bringing the luxury of the twenty first century to the historically charming building. Expect large, comfortable beds, vintage surroundings and furniture, and far-reaching views from each of the large windows. In addition, every bedroom has an adjoining private bathroom with either a roll-top bath tub or a glorious walk-in shower.
The restaurant at The Bull Inn is a real treat; whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just in town to catch up with friends and family, you’re bound to have a great meal and wonderful time. With a superb wine list and the same winning, timeless décor which characterises the inn, the restaurant is something special. Head chef Tom Tinson places seasonal local ingredients at the heart of his menu, which emphasises expertly cooked game, meat and seafood, along with other gastropub classics. All of the meat and game are sourced through Densham’s family butchers from Oxfordshire farms, with the exception of our high quality free range pork, which comes from Suffolk. Kingfishers are the purveyors of the fish and seafood, which arrives daily from the coast.
Celebrated for its tranquillity, the local area offers a number of activities and events throughout the year, from the Cheltenham Races to Wilderness Festival. There are a number of walking trails right past the front door, perfect for working up an appetite, and a handful of specialist independent shops which cater to all interests. The long-running specialist bookshop Borzoi Bookshop is a particular recommendation, along with Cotswold Woollen Weavers. Burford Garden Company is iconic for very good reasons- pop in if you can.
