Nestled in the quaint village of Black Torrington in rural mid-Devon, this marvellous treehouse offers a fabulous bolthole that makes the most of its beautiful setting. Drawing on its forest surroundings, the treehouse was constructed from locally sourced timber, with the furnishings similarly drawing on a wooden theme. With cosy furniture – including two expansive sofas – and a wood burner, this property is a welcoming home away from home.
This treehouse is a peaceful retreat for family and friends alike, accommodating up to four guests across two spacious bedrooms and one bathroom. With an array of sleeping options – either two super king-size beds or one super king-size and two single beds – the space is easily adaptable, with both bedrooms finished with French windows spilling out onto the balcony for gorgeous, panoramic countryside views. The bedrooms are characterised by wooden furnishings, including oak bedframes merging with the treehouse theme.
A homely, rustic space with wooden floorboards and a vast wooden table, the kitchen offers everything needed to rustle up an evening meal, including an oven, a microwave, a hob and extractor fan, a fridge-freezer and a coffee machine for a morning beverage. The countertops are similarly designed to incorporate the forest theme, referencing the copper beech trees on site. Meanwhile, the living room is the heart of the home, with two cosy, plush sofas, a coffee table and a rug for a traditional countryside feel.
Tucked away in Devon, Black Torrington is a quaint countryside village in an idyllic location. Inundated with gorgeous natural hotspots, guests can enjoy a trip to Roadford Lake or Tamar Lakes, both equally stunning local reservoirs offering water sports including kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. The accompanying lakeside trails are also perfect for leisurely walks, cycling or even a picnic spot.
Elsewhere, the famous Dartmoor National Park sits close by, offering an expansive area of moorland offering breathtaking views, dramatic landscapes and even ancient ruins. The Museum of Dartmoor Life is an ideal trip for learning more about the heritage and culture of the locality, providing interactive exhibits fit for all the family, whilst the English Heritage site of Okehampton Castle offers an exciting, immersive trip back in time.

Leave a reviewWhat an utterly gorgeous, enchanting hidden gem! Be warned, I'm in love with this place and I think it might show *a bit* in my review! ???? Firstly... Hospitality and kindness... from Ray helping us with bags & kids when we arrived in the dark & pouring rain, to Anne lending their personal cafétiere to their general warmth and helpful suggestions of local activities. Secondly, the Treehouse EXUDES a warmth and that sense of a secret adventure. So much handcrafted woodwork - clearly a labour of love. So much thought has gone into every part & function. Even the books(kids& adults alike)seem carefully curated to spark joy, laughter and relaxation. Thirdly, you're in the woods but not without genuine comfort. You feel cocooned in warmth by the woodburner, and cocooned in comfort when in bed! (they are SO comfortable, & beautifully crafted!). Finally, this place is a must for almost anyone. I can imagine it being a gorgeous romantic woodland getaway as much as it is an enchanting, comfortable forest-esque adventure for our family of 4. I have some access needs, but found that despite the relatively steep path, it's not far at all from the car to the front door so I've managed it easily - as have our kids(age 5&7). Highly, highly recommend this beautiful spot.
