It’s not just the inspired retro décor which makes a stay at Snooze such fun. Relaxed and welcoming, but no slouch when it comes to service, this funky, nostalgia-packed gem in Brighton’s Kemptown gets rave reviews from guests for its blissful boutique ambiance.

There’s no bland conformity here: every room at Snooze is different, so choose the one which does it for you. Whether it’s French antique chic, Bollywood glamour or out-there 60s kitsch which floats your boat, you’ll find it here.

Something of a 20th-century time capsule, you can’t help but enjoy the boldness of these colourful pads, but it’s not all style and no substance: each room is equipped with a TV, DVD player and iPod dock to keep you entertained, and an en suite shower room with complimentary toiletries and Egyptian cotton towels to keep you fresh.

Of course, no homage to the last century would be complete without a stop in the evocative 1970s, and the Penthouse suites of Snooze manage to be both spotlessly clean and delightfully dirty (in a good way). Perfectly furnished, with plenty of space for a spot of louche lounging, check out the funky graphic art and seductive colours for a trip back in time you won’t soon forget.

There’s a great cooked breakfast to set you on your way each morning, and with Brighton seafront within 2 minutes’ walk of Snooze, you’ll be breathing the sea air before you know it. The Kemptown district has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants of its own, and it won’t take you long to meander down to the city centre either.

The likes of Brighton Pier, the Sea Life Centre and Brighton Pavilion are all easy to reach on foot, and there’s always entertainment to be found at a host of music venues, comedy and cabaret clubs. If you want to head further, you can jump on a train and be in central London in 1 hour. With Gatwick Airport less than 30 minutes from Brighton, it’s an easy trip getting there too.
