The detail

Shalmar Hollow is a luxurious coastal retreat where you can enjoy sandy beaches, open pastures and Michelin-starred restaurants. Overlooking the Camel Estuary in Cornwall’s stylish Rock village, it blends traditional country life with a contemporary beach hut vibe. Enjoy its captivating sea views and its sumptuous interiors, along with its private outdoor pool and garden terraces. With its three family suites and sprawling living space, it’s the perfect base for a sophisticated family break.

Set in lush, rolling farmland above the pretty Porthilly Cove, Shalmar Hollow is in an exclusive row of unique coastal homes. Its wood-clad façade has a suburban, summerhouse style which hides chic rustic interiors and fascinating vintage finds. Sleek walls and whitewashed floors are its minimalist canvas, while original features and nautical treasures add to its distinctive character. Look out for the washed-up driftwood or the portal window or the maritime treasures and uber-cool surfboard.

The light and airy living spaces offer room to spread out, and include a large kitchen and dining area with an impressive, mezzanine lounge. Relax on the sink-in sofas and soak up the breath-taking sea-views or sit out on the balcony and admire the ever-changing coastal hues.

The modern country kitchen has everything you could need and more, including an Aga cooker, electric oven and a Nespresso coffee machine. There’s even a sun-kissed conservatory and a playroom for the children, along with a separate sitting room with a roaring log burner.

Spread out across the two floors, and in three family suites, are eight spacious bedrooms which sleep up to seven adults and five kids. The first-floor master has a massive en-suite double, along with a separate twin just across the hallway. A large second suite sleeps up to seven and has a gorgeous double, a cosy single and a double bunkroom for four kids. The final downstairs suite is perfect just for three and has a beautiful double connected to a single child’s bedroom.

Outside, you can explore the three sprawling terraces, taking a dip in the heated outdoor pool or relaxing beside the fire pit. Explore the sophisticated seaside villages and their spectacular scenes, strolling across the open fields to the stunning Porthilly beach. Pretty Rock Village is just a short walk further on and is an exclusive coastal hotspot with a certain je ne sais quoi. Try Nathan Outlaw’s Michelin restaurant or one of the local country pubs before taking a ferry across to Padstow where you can uncover its bustling seaside hub.

Joly family

We had a super family holiday at this lovely, well appointed house with lots of space indoors and out. Walking distance to Rock and the local beach with Padstow just across the estuary by ferry. Would love to return one day.
