This lovely four bedroom house is set in the village of Glencaple on the River Nith with beautiful views of the Solway estuary and Criffel hill in the distance. Just a few miles south of Dumfries and a five-minute drive from Caerlaverock’s castle and nature reserve, it’s ideally located for exploring the south west coast of Scotland. Sit out on the glass-fronted deck and soak up the scenery or lace up your walking boots and explore the surrounding countryside. After dinner at the award-winning restaurant on the quayside, The Boathouse, head back to Erriff to cosy up in front of the wood burner or perhaps relax in the freestanding bath with its views of the night sky.
Step inside and you’ll find the interiors have been designed in a welcoming, contemporary style that helps you feel at home right away. The living room is the perfect spot to curl up with a book in front of the fire or to gather around the Smart TV in the evening and watch a film together. On warmer days, you’ll be able to open up the patio doors and sit out on the deck in the sunshine, enjoying that spectacular view. The kitchen is well equipped with a range cooker, dishwasher and a coffee machine and there’s room for everyone around the extendable dining table. There’s also a utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and space to air dry clothes, handy for any muddy outdoor kit.
Head up to the first floor where you’ll find three bedrooms. The main bedroom features a luxurious super-king size bed and a slipper bath in its ensuite. There’s also a double room with an additional cabin bed suitable for a child and a twin room. These rooms share a large family bathroom with a huge bath and a separate shower cubicle. Make your way up to the second floor where you’ll find another bedroom with a super-king size bed and a shower room. There’s also a single bedroom with fantastic views which you can enjoy from the comfort of the freestanding bath.
As well as the front deck with its lovely river views, there’s also an enclosed back garden with loungers, tables and chairs for enjoying lazy afternoons in the sunshine. Rustle up a late lunch on the gas BBQ and stay out late into the evening, staying warm with the help of the fire pit. There’s also a store where you can keep your bikes or any other outdoor kit.
There’s plenty to do in the area whether you fancy a bit of culture, soaking up the beautiful landscapes or discovering the best spots to eat. Start with a stroll around Glencaple itself, a charming village with cosy riverside restaurants serving up locally sourced produce from the land and the sea. For a bit of history, head to the medieval Caerlaverock Castle or to the Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura to learn more about the region. Enjoy a long walk along the Solway Firth or book yourselves onto a boat tour with the opportunity to spot seals, otters and a wide variety of bird species. The Firth also offers plenty in the way of watersports, from open water swimming to kayaking and paddleboarding.
